  1. I've almost decided that I'm going to take Duke. But I wanted to know - how much is the MPP geared towards domestic policy? I've heard that like KSG, the emphasis even in the social policy stream in Duke is on US policy. Since I'm an international student, I'm looking for more comparative courses which deal with different development strategies (like the WWS course). Would I get that in Duke?
  2. Thanks linden and east-of-eden (you closet Duke-lover, you )
  3. So now with the HKS reject out of the way, I have to decide between Duke, Georgetown and Maryland. Duke is offering to pay for about 75% of my tuition, Georgetown is giving me less than 33%, and Maryland is giving me almost 100%. I'm an Asian student, and I'm looking to come back and work on social policy in my home country, so the DC network isn't a factor. Brand name is definitely an issue. All these universities are still unaffordable, so I'll have to apply for external funding anyway. I'm leaning towards Duke at this point (so much that I'm in danger of tipping over), but I just wanted to ask the board - should I be considering Georgetown or Maryland a little more?
  4. Rejected. Congrats to everyone who made it! One small (very small) part of me is a little (very little) glad that at least this is all over now.
  5. Got my aid decision today. (I'm ahead of US time, so it seems they're working on Saturdays!) They're giving me $10,000. I think it's close to as much they've given anyone else on this forum, but sadly it's not enough for me. So it's bye-bye, G-town
  6. Yes, that's what I meant. The deadline for accepting the revised offer is April 6.
  7. I did too, and got the same amount. I don't know how much it's going to help me, though. And the deadline for accepting that offer is April 6.
  8. I agree with this. I think I'm eventually going to have to decide between Duke and Georgetown. And Duke's been amazing with their e-group and constant updates and prompt replies. Georgetown has been unresponsive and vague, and I'm sure they have an excellent course, but this doesn't say much for how they regard their students.
  9. eek what's the "commitment to public service" essay?! I didn't have to do it!
  10. I have to submit application forms for external scholarships by the 27th, and I need to tell them which school I'm applying for. Hear me, O HKS gods!
  11. Has anyone heard anything? It's been more than a week since their (self-imposed) deadline for the second wave...
  12. Oh yes it is. I guess I should move my phone from my ear now.
  13. The leaves fall slowly Outside, as the world goes on I refresh, refresh.
  14. Isn't it daylight yet? Why aren't they up and about calling people? I've gone through the euphoria of getting in and the crushing disappointment of being rejected so many times in my head that I can't think straight any more.
  15. I haven't got any email. Is this the end of the road? Anybody else heard anything?
  16. me too! stickcricket is a great option as well.
  17. My application status said "completed" even before I received my decision. If I were you, I'd call and confirm that the application has been processed...
  18. I'm wait listed for the MPA-MDP too. Has ANYONE here gotten in?
  19. To the people who've gotten in (and received their funding letters) what kind of financial aid is Duke giving? I have to wait for another two days to find out how much I'm getting, and the tension is killing me
  20. I'm still waiting on a couple of other colleges, so I'm guessing I'll probably have to call them in April. SIPA seems to have considerably less funding than some of Columbia's other schools. My girlfriend is applying to the journalism school, and she had to fill an exhaustive scholarship aid form.
  21. My bad. I meant wait listed without any hope in hell of funding. Here's what they said: "Please note that all fellowship funds for the 2009-2010 academic year have been expended. Therefore, no offers of fellowship will be made to those admitted from the waitlist. However, if you are a U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident, and have submitted the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), you may be eligible to receive federal student loans of up to $24,500 and a work-study grant of $4,000. Many international students who have co-signers in the U.S. have been able to access private educational loans in the past. More information about these and other financial aid opportunities is available should an offer of admission be made."
  22. Wait listed without funding. And a final decision could be made 'in a few months'. Yikes!
  23. hey micro, i pm'ed you a week back. how'd your interview go?
