I have been waiting since February 25 when I received the acceptance letter from the department (BISI PHD) to see a change in the application portal. But the only thing that changed is that the status says "under graduate review" and they added an App ID #. The BISI department said the grad school is using a new system this year so that might be why there is a delay. It's frustrating though......

Congrats! Hi, are you and your friend all domestic students? I applied for this program as an international students and have not heard any update.
No, my friend is domestic. Received acceptance letter via email but the portal is still not changed. The acceptance letter had a link to answer a survey if you were planning to attend or not. The portal does say "under grad school review" for status and on Monday they added a "app id" number. Was told by the BISI department that the grad school is using a new application system this year which is what is causing the hold up.

I would say that the proximity to the DC area makes Maryland way more attractive. Depending on what your long term goals are it really is exciting to be right there in the hub of government. Makes every day a real life case study. Also, think about the internship opportunities and the convenience of being right there.

My friend received the offer letter for UMD MOCB BISI about same time as you did (she is not on grad cafe) and her UMD portal has not been updated. Has yours?
Were you able to accept the offer? Any info would be appreciated!

So I attended UMD's BISI Program's recruitment event today and I have no idea how to feel about it. Firstly, there were about 70 or more people there, and next week they will have another event like today's. So they've got like 140 "shortlisted" students? It's quite a lot, isn't it?
While most of the events were things like lightning talks and talks by the director to talk about their campus and program, the meaty part of the event were interviews with possible PI's. I had 4 interviews but I was so puzzled by them! All the professors I talked to conducted the interviews in a very casual manner, one of them even making small talk about where he lived and his commute to campus. They all asked me about my background but I never got anything close to an expression of interest on my research and no one told me they were interested on my work or in me possibly joining their labs.
So I guess I don't get the purpose of these events. I mean, they've got double or more the amount of students they'll admit attending this event, we all interviewed with at least three professors, so what was the purpose of the whole thing if professors are not even telling you whether they are interested in you working with them? Or was that just me? Are you supposed to get hints that they are interested in having you work with them in these interviews? In that case I must have failed miserably. Thing is, I have a few years of research experience, I have innovative and interesting research interests (according to my ex preofessors), I had solid recommendation letters, and I feel I am a solid candidate overall, I feel like I conducted myself in a professional and cool manner, and yet... nothing, no apparent interest in me as an applicant nor any interest in my work.
Does anybody have any clues how they choose admitted students? were the interviews supposed to be casual? Did I completely blow it?
My friend interviewed the same days as you. But interestingly, an email arrived about an hour before it started congratulating her on being admitted but to still participate and enjoy the 2 day event. So strange. She really likes the program. What do you think about the program?

Anyone hear back from USC PiBBS or Biology of Aging? I have other interviews/offers at this point (luckily) but it's the only school (out of more than a dozen...) that I've had complete and utter radiosilence from at this moment in time.
Just weird -- seems semi-negligent to not give any updates 3 months after handing them $200 (or whatever) for free ?
Yes, total silence from USC Pibbs.

anyone heard back from uci cmb or usc pibbs lol
radio silence from both uci cmb and usc pibbs. any idea why we are not hearing from them? I think at this point I will assume a rejection.

Not sure if @irene39 saw my question above but I was looking for feedback on the UMD BISI program. Anyone heard anything about the program?
-
Anyone hear from USC Pibbs yet? UCI CMB? Radio Silence from them so curious if any of you have heard from them?
-
@Irene39 just curious what you think about the UMD BISI program? Are you interviewing there? What do you like about it? I'm thinking about applying next year. I love the DC area and its close to the NIH.

Thanks for your update. Looks like you have not heard from Emory either?
-
Just wondering if anyone heard from University of Southern California (USC) on their PIBBS applications?
-
If I understand correctly from my research, the UMB program you are asking about is thru the University of Maryland Medical School.
-
just anxious.....anyone heard from the following:
EMORY - GDBBS - Microbiology & Molecular Genetics
USC Pibbs
UC Irvine - Cell and Molecular Sciences
Is no news good news or accept reality of rejection

Has anyone heard back from USC PIBBS?

The portal was finally updated on 4/1/21. Email was also sent to check the portal and I found the official decision letter with the acceptance. Crazy that it took over 4 weeks. Yes, I emailed the department twice (2 weeks apart) and both times was told that the portal is a new system and it is taking longer as a result.
