I interviewed on Jan 14 for first round Harvard DrPH interview. I am assuming I was not moved forward in the process bc I haven't heard since and they do two rounds of interviews. From speaking with others I know it's both small and a super competitive program, even in a non-covid year!

It really is extremely competitive. So much of it is about luck as well I think, because there's a big emphasis on cohorts admitting candidates from varied public health disciplines and career paths. A lot of applicants might be expert epidemiologists for example, but the program might just be looking to fill 1 spot for someone with an epi background.

My second interview was pretty meh, so I am not very confident at this point. I was hoping to nerd out about my research interests but was thrown off by questions like 'which leader do you admire the most and why?' ?

Anyone heard back from Harvard Dr. PH program? Just saw an acceptance on the results page, normally they send out decisions in March, just wondering ...do they decide to send out emails earlier this year?

    Thanks,

And anyone heard back from JHU international health(health system)? I saw several refusal only...

In past years the Harvard DrPH sent out offers from mid-Feb, and rejections in March. No news yet on my end and am quite nervous! The cohort is extremely small so I doubt it will take too long for them to send all offers out. If I don't hear back in the next 2 working days I'll assume I've been waitlisted/rejected :(

yes, I got the email right after i replied you, did interview today...find out i am actually more nervous expecting the admission decision.... finger crossed. All the best for your interview!!!

Terrific!! Glad you received good news and I am sure you were stellar at the second interview! Mine is later this week. Completely relate to the nervousness but thankfully work is keeping me distracted :)

Hi, I did the first round couple weeks ago, i am still anxiously waiting...I hope they didn't send out all the invitations yet...

They could be sending invitations out in batches, or based on domestic/international student status. I have my fingers crossed for you!

No word yet?.  I alternate between "that went OK" and "that was my worst exhibition of social skills to date".  It's a real rollercoaster of emotions right now.

Oh absolutely - I feel the same. I wonder if the cohort this year will be slightly larger given that applications for public health degrees have sharply risen. My interviewer did mention they had quite a lot of interviews to go through that week. Hoping this means more get accepted vs more get the cut!

As of now, I'm out at Penn, Pitt, and Emory. All PhDs.

Still no invites for interviews. Now I'm convinced I'm never getting out of my dead end job or advancing in the world.

    Still waiting for:

DrPH: BUSPH, Harvard, Columbia, Hopkins, GW, Penn State

PhD: Brown, Northeastern, UMass, UMd, UNC, Tulane, Temple, Drexel, Rutgers

My brother died by suicide at 32 years old Nov 16. I have to try and pick up the pieces. This whole thing is a mess. I regret even trying.

Hey HealthMatters, I'm so so sorry to hear about your brother. That is devastating and I can't imagine how much pain you've fought through in the past months, and are still fighting through. Please know you are incredibly strong to have even picked yourself up from that traumatic loss and apply for these programs! And no matter the final outcome they are absolutely not a reflection of your ability! You are of great value to the world and I know you are going to eventually find a way out of the job you dislike and make a difference - because even in the midst of perhaps the greatest crisis in your life you are still resilient and committed enough to public health to actively work towards advancing it + striving to further your expertise with a PhD/DrPH. That is incredible and inspiring, and that is why I know someone like you will excel regardless of whether you get into a program this year or the next. I know you will make it. I cannot offer much besides a listening ear/someone to stress out with about results, but please reach out if you feel like it. If this year doesn't work out and you'd like a fresh pair of eyes to review your applications for the next, I'm happy to help with that too (in my limited ability as a fellow applicant).

You got this! Please don't give up! Sending love.

I am not sure if it is worse to get rejected without an interview or to get rejected after an interview?

Feeling this. Had an interview last week and currently waiting to see if I've been selected to advance to the second round of interviews. I'd be pretty shattered if I got rejected at this stage. Anxiety is through the roof!
