Planning Admissions 2021: Discussion Thread

Yep, I’m betting we’re hear from them next week. If Berkeley already came out and probably received even more applications, then I’m sure UCLA is not far behind... I also wonder about UNC and UCI... -
Planning Admissions 2021: Discussion Thread

Oh wow. That website design from Columbia, with that neon green — no thanks. Fair point with SLO. Location is a concern of mine as well. And good points with the Cal State vs UC divide. People have different opinions about the UCs — I’ve met a planner who regretted his education at a UC because it was so theory-based, and another who said that the theory you learned at the UCs made them stand out from people who only learned “cookie-cutter” planner skills. -
Planning Admissions 2021: Discussion Thread

Same here. I feel much more relieved. I’m considering UCLA, CP SLO, UMich, and UNC. SJSU is technically my backup, but the program has been highly recommended to me, and the professors do stand out to me. Great location and price point too. I guess I’m just coming from a big research university and kind of want the same vibe in my graduate school. I didn’t apply to CPP but applied to its sister school, CP SLO. Truthfully, I thought why apply to both when I can apply to the more reputable one. (Also, wasn’t a fan of the website, and websites that look old or don’t have much info like UIUC don’t make me want to apply.) But I have heard good things about CPP from my professor, so maybe if I wanted another safety school besides SJSU and SLO, I should’ve went with that. -

@mightybruinss Yes, I don’t think anyone has heard any news at all besides phd applicants. Really want to get into UCLA after also getting rejected from Cal -
Just got my rejection from Berkeley too. Not surprised, a little disappointed, but mostly relieved that the wait is over. Things happen for a reason, and I hope the rest of y’all get into the schools you deserve! Hugs! (Now I’m counting on you, UCLA! My second choice!)

Berkeley applicants — @alliecask @anxiousplanner — results are coming out now (my friend just got theirs), and I really can’t handle this anticipation!!! Wish you all the best! -
My friend who applied to Berkeley for their MCP program just got their admissions results via email! I won’t share more details for privacy reasons, but just wanted to let you all know that results at Berkeley are coming out. However, I also applied but haven’t received an email (and am currently dying to know).

Planning Admissions 2021: Discussion Thread

Glad you like this idea! I know, I've been anxious about Berkeley too. I'm preparing myself for a rejection LOL and just want to get it over with. At least we have the March 5th expectation that they'll send out results by then. -
Hey everyone, I started a new thread for us to ask personal questions, get advice, vent, etc.! Just if we want to clean up this thread a little to keep it for admissions results and decisions. Feel free to continue chatting here, but I just wanted to provide a place to have possibly off-topic discussions. Hope you all don't mind.
-
Hi everyone! I noticed that our other thread, which is normally dedicated to admissions results, is getting busy with discussions. That is totally cool, but moving forward, as admissions are rolling out and people will be wanting to vent and ask personal questions, it might be nice to keep that thread mainly focused on admission results and decisions. So I'm starting a new thread for people to ask questions, get advice, vent, etc. Feel free to continue chatting on the other thread, but I just wanted to provide a place to have possibly off-topic discussions. Hope you all don't mind! (If this is a good idea and gets popular, maybe we can create separate threads for funding questions/advice, venting, etc.? Or at least an idea for the next cycle.)
-
Thanks for reaching out! Yes, the school is on that list, but they haven’t offered any scholarship to me. So I guess it doesn’t apply to my situation, but luckily I was able to request until the end of March to make a decision.
-
Exactly. I feel like the biggest selling point of planning grad school besides getting a degree, at least for me, is the connections you make. And as a current undergrad who’s had a year of online classes, I know that’s really hard to do virtually.
-
On a more serious note, for those of you who are getting acceptances, have any of your schools indicated whether instruction will be virtual or in-person? If not, do you think they will announce that before we make decisions? I can maybe deal with a virtual fall semester, but I’d have big second thoughts whether I’d want to take out loans for an entirely virtual first year. What are your thoughts?
-
Fellas, it’s come to the point that I just had a dream where I was accepted to my dream school and woke up devastated that it wasn’t real lmao. Will these schools just put us out of our misery already?
-
I think I will only visit if I’m debating seriously between two schools and (lack of) funding is a significant factor.
-
Does anyone have an idea of when most responses from schools will be sent out? Even just vaguely? Thinking of schools like UCLA, Berkeley, UNC, UMich. One of the schools I got in wants a decision by March 15, but I’m not sure if I can give a decision by then (currently haven’t heard back from any other school besides them), so I need to ask for an extension asap.
-
This is gonna be the longest, most-viewed thread ever here LOL. Also, all the USC acceptances are making me wish I hadn't crossed it off of my list, whoops!
-
Probably anything over like $25-30k.
-
First acceptance!

@planningfor2021 Trying to keep myself busy, but I find myself returning to this thread too often! It's gonna be a longgg few months.
