  1. Hey everyone, I’d love to hear where everyone has decided to attend! Congratulations to all wether you got in or not for making it this far. I am still deciding, Columbia University was my top choice but faculty fit and funding seem huge issues right now, so I’m still considering. good luck to everyone
  2. So I would definitely look into the curricula of each program and see which one appeals most to the type of RESEARCH you are trying to conduct. I particularly love social work research because we have a unique person in environment lens along with a systems perspective model. This means a lot of research is application/intervention research. I am not as familiar with public policy but I urge you to look into the professors there too and their research because that will give you more of an idea of what track to pick. also you can apply to both programs!
  3. Has anyone heard anything after interviews from WUSTL? WashU?
  4. Anyone hear from PhD psych program at WashU St.Louis yet? I went to the interview on the 5th but no word on my end yet.
  5. HEY HEY! CELEBRATING on my end! Congrats!!! Is this where you think you’ll go?
  6. CONGRATS!!! Which one do you think you’ll take? Are you waiting on any other ones?
  7. Thank you! I had 3 interviews with each school. 1st with POIs or admissions dept people, 2nd with grad students, 3rd with committee/other faculty in program. I would say the prep is the same. If you don’t know who it is, then be overall familiar with the program itself and the lab you want to work in. I also would say for me, I didn’t know who I would interview with after POIs so I looked up who else did research with my area of interest and briefly perused their profiles. it’s ok to not know EVERYTHING in advanced, I think most importantly be yourself! You have the answers within you about what makes YOU the best candidate. I’d say practice some relaxation techniques so that you are able to come across in the way you want to. I know I ended up interviewing with someone I had done 0 research on and instead focused on hearing her research interests and listened to what would be aligned to mine. (Focus also on what you would need to find out from them to make a decision to be at that program).
  8. I have interviewed with 4 schools thus far and have gotten accepted to all of them. My advice is: 1. DO YOUR RESEARCH. Look into not just their publications but even the students they work with, their other research interests, classes they teach, etc. 2. BE YOURSELF. If you are presenting someone you aren’t or are just saying what you think they hope to hear then you are sabotaging yourself because then even if they accept you you’ll be miserable because you didn’t present yourself accurately for fit. 3. NEVER RUN OUT OF QUESTIONS. Have a bucketload of questions that you could potentially ask! The more specific the better because it shows you are versed on the information of the program. TAKE A LOOK at their curriculum guides, and if they have a handbook make sure to compare it to other schools to gather questions from too. 4. SHOW YOUR PASSION!
  9. Keep that head up! No matter what we are going to great work in this world. I love social work ♥️
  10. My status still says "In Review" for UT Austin... lol
  11. I have still not heard a single thing from UT Austin which sounds like it may be a rejection ? When is the recruitment event supposed to be?
  12. This was extremely helpful! Thank you, it definitely echoes what I’ve heard from my mentors.
  13. Hey everyone, I’m wondering if you all could share what feedback you’ve received from mentors or other PhD students on what’s most important when deciding what program to attend? I appreciate all your answers thank you!
  14. IKR! I went to U of M too for my MSW and I was looking forward to applying there for the joint PhD social work program but my mentor form there let me know they were not taking any new PhD students in the fall and possibly spring terms due to funding so I was Highly DISAPPOINTED! Things happen for a reason and I am not letting that stop me from applying to other programs hoping you get to pursue your studies too!
