  1. Hey Anabel! Unfortunately, I'm on the waitlist with you. However, I got another offer from one of my top schools - an offer I wasn't expecting to get, to be perfectly honest. I'm going to take a couple days to reflect, but I think I'm going to end up letting Duke know that I'm going a different direction. I've got my fingers crossed for you and hope that everything works out for you to end up at Duke!
  2. Hey firefly22! I'm erring on the side of caution, especially given how fraught this whole process seems to be this year due to Covid-related budget issues. I assume that the folks who received letters from Duke Romance Studies are finalists and the virtual visit next week is an opportunity for the department to get a sense of how committed prospective students might be to the department before extending an offer and providing funding information. This is my first cycle, though, so I'm just going on intuition - happy to defer to someone with more knowledge!
  3. DeNovo - this is a really helpful piece of perspective and something that I've been wondering about. As an undergrad at on the East Coast, all of my French lit courses, including a grad seminar I took as a senior, were in French, so I guess I always assumed the same would be the case in grad school. Do you, or anyone else, have any additional insight on this dynamic in other American programs?
  4. Thank you, it definitely is! Was really excited to get the letter yesterday! What about you?
  5. I heard from Duke as well! Maybe I'll have the chance to meet some of you during Duke's open house!
  6. Hi everyone, Glad to have additional context for this admission cycle. Fingers crossed for myself and all of you! I applied to Duke, Princeton, UCLA, and Yale for French Studies. I also applied to two African-American Studies programs - my work focuses on race in the US and France and the connections between the two countries - at Cal Berkeley and Northwestern.
