SIPA (Columbia) Thread
SubjectNotebook replied to SubjectNotebook's topic in Government Affairs Forum
Just received an e-mail from the Admissions office saying notifications would be in 'early March'. The e-mail itself says that there cannot be more clarity on early, but that work is in full swing. :-) @magellan: Interestingly, the e-mail re-iterates that no decisions have gone out yet. -

Weird weird weird. Makes no sense! Probably some other program - Ph. D. maybe? Whether or not this is true, you and I are going to have to wait into March! :-) -

Hi Magellan, would you know who has been rejected - I tried searching for the thread, but couldn't find it. I'd take the SIPA blog's word over anyone else - they've shared information accurately always. Also, the website says that decisions would be out early March - so I'm guessing in the next couple of weeks. -

Okay, SIPA made a trip to India and one of the e-mails said that notifications would be out between 1st and 15th March. Just re-read those e-mails and noticed that now! That's this week and next :-) Hey MssyAK, I am keen to do ed reform in the long term too...I'd love to connect sometime to hear your thoughts and ideas! -
Thanks IdealThinker for the info. I see a dip in productivity for me right here!

@cplanika: I check their blog too, but thanks. I agree that they've done an awesome job of keeping applicants informed of what's going on. Thanks for letting me know about the review process (also @greendiplomat) @apsuwa: good to know decisions start this week - I remember reading somewhere that SIPA sends out news starting early March - and I hope it is soon! Have y'all thought about financial aid? -
I noticed there wasn't a thread for SIPA and thought I'd start one. I'm an applicant, and I got in my app just minutes before the deadline. I hope that doesn't make a difference and I get to hear soon, soon, soon! Anyone else there waiting to hear from SIPA? Cheers, SN

Got an admit from NYU-Wagner. It came in a few hours ago - I'm assuming around 5 pm NYT. Excited (and a bit relieved). -
My essays for fellowship apps are almost identical - like many of you I figured it wouldn't make any sense to write new things (I think it actually isn't right!). I only nuanced the ideas in the fellowship essays a bit to highlight the aspects relevant to each fellowship. I didn't do much to my cv/resume - I updated it with some major changes and a new project I've started since Dec and removed some unnecessary elements. I saw the request for re-submission as something that comes from administrative convenience - I guessed it would be a pain for 2-3 fellowships to share the same CV copy with AdCom, and it is probably easier if separately submitted :-)

Hey, I've applied for the Reynolds at NYU. Any news? The website says notifications for the Reynolds (and prob other fellowship applicants) should be out by 8 Mar. My heart beats a little faster each day when I open my e-mail. I'm not very productive at work :-( -
Anyone out there applying for multiple fellowships? Are your essays identical/similar?
-
Hey I got this e-mail this morning too.I was mighty excited, but sawthis: Review of your financial aid status is done independent of the review of your application for admission and therefore receipt of this email should not be construed as suggesting the likelihood of any particular admission decision. I guess it is just a reminder :-) I don't think the results will come out any earlier this year - I feel like HKS expected more applicants (or received many more than usual last year), and just set aside extra time.

Is there anybody out there who has applied for the AAUW (American Association for University Women) fellowship? Have you heard back from them? Any idea on when one can expect to hear back?

Hi - That's weird - I called this week and they said 31st, which is also what the website says. Wait and watch I guess... -

Hey, I called the HKS AdCom too (about my incomplete file) and they told me to check back after the 15th. I'm going to call in today or tomorrow to figure things out if the file still says incomplete. The SPARKS portal is down now. Do let me know if you hear anything. I agree - I don't want to burden the Admissions office, but I'm anxious about the application! Sarayu -
Hi all, Does anyone know when the scholarship for 2011-12 will be notified? The website says to check back in Fall 2010, but I'm guessing we're past fall now into peak winter! Has anyone reached out to them? SubjectNotebook

MPP, MPA, MIA 2011 Fall applications!
SubjectNotebook replied to SubjectNotebook's topic in Government Affairs Forum
MssyAK, I think a school's brand value is also important. Especially if you are from outside the US (like I am), and plan to return, going to a school that is *perceived* as good is relevant. My own way has to been to identify 5-6 key criteria, assign weights and score schools to come up with my top 3-4 schools. (I don't think I'll have the energy to apply to more!). I scored schools by looking up sites, speaking to alum, etc. -
MPP, MPA, MIA 2011 Fall applications!
SubjectNotebook replied to SubjectNotebook's topic in Government Affairs Forum
Sigh. I'm taking the GRE only for WWS really. I'm also somewhat defensive about my lack of quant background (!), so I'm hoping a good GRE score will support my case. I guess I needn't be too worried - I do have 2 college courses in Econ, and did calculus and advanced algebra in Math in school, but still... I'm not in the US - in India actually, and Indian universities do not offer quality short term courses. I'll just have to figure it out if I do get an admit somewhere. :-) I'll send you my ID - thanks for the offer! SubjectNotebook
