Hi everyone, received an offer for an MPhil at Oxford along with full funding from Nuffield College. That's that for this cycle for me, and I will be accepting the Oxford offer unless one of my PhD waitlists works out. Its been good, and thank you for being such a supportive community!

Is anyone with an offer at NYU or MIT not going to accept? Would really appreciate it if folks declined the offer ASAP if they're not going to go.

Just out of curiosity, since two of your acceptances are places I'm waitlisted at and we're the same subfield: where did you choose to go in the end?

Hey, sorry that it hasn't worked out for you this year, but I do think if you were able to convince a POI to want you admitted, you have a good shot in future years too. I received the email exactly 1 hour ago.

Yes, I was, about 30 minutes ago. Not in the US. I didn't really have time to apply to more than 5 places this year, because I was juggling being an undergraduate amidst a pandemic haha. I do have backup options though, and will try again next year having learned from this process and worked a little longer on my applications. Good luck to everyone who is still waiting to hear back and everyone trying again next year!

Claiming a Waitlist at MIT. That's 3/5 Waitlists, at NYU, Princeton and MIT, and no acceptances. So close, yet so far...

What makes you think it'll be a small cohort?

This is definitely trolls. Id believe that no one who frequents this thread got an acceptance, but no one getting a rejection either is just weird.

To add to this discussion for anyone else thinking of places to apply for next year etc: if you're an international student, that also really complicates matters. For example, I know I need an R1 job if I want to stay in academia in the US. Teaching colleges aren't going to sponsor my visas and stuff. Needing an R1 job means applying to an R1 program, which is all I did this year and plan to do next year.

Aah okay. My bad. Looks like MIT is out then. I just have Yale left, which was my strongest app, but at this point I dont think thats coming in either.
