  1. Has anyone heard from Florida State University (FSU)? Did you get an interview invite or not yet?
  2. Has anyone heard from University of Colorado Boulder? I know they gave out some acceptances as stated on the result page. I emailed the department around 10 days ago and they said they would get back to me in the next weeks. I have not heard from them yet. Do you think they are keeping the rejected students till the end?
  3. Hey guys, so I was accepted at ASU PhD Comm program two weeks ago. However, I am waitlisted for the funding. The admission office are requesting me to fill out forms to get my I-20. They told me I could wait till I get the funding or submit the forms to get my I-20 faster, but again, I am on the funding waitlist. So, basically my question is do you recommend I wait till the funding is available or submit the financial forms so I can get my I-20 faster? The reason why I am asking you is that the American Embassy in Kuwait has limited number of visitors due to the pandemic. That is why I have to request an expedite appointment at least a month before if I want to apply for my F-1 Visa. I can still get a visa appointment later if the Teaching Assistantship becomes available but I am worried that the time frame might be tight because Ramadan (Fasting month) will be in April and the government of the country I am living in will enforce a full lockdown for 30 days. I am thinking to send the above to the department coordinator, what do you think?
  4. Thank you for your words. That is so true, I did apply to AU 30 minutes before the application deadline was about to be closed. I had low hopes honestly and I knew the result. Actually I have bot checked my portal for almost one month now to check my result because I knew it was a long shot. But the best will come for everyone, I believe that! I cant wait for today's ZOOM Call! I have some updates about stuff I wanna address!
  5. Hey everyone, I received an email from American University (AU) PhD Comm. Program yesterday requesting that I attend the MA in Media, Technology and Democracy online discussion in few days. I was confused that I received an email from the Head of the PhD program stating that I need to attend a seminar for a masters degree program when I applied to the PhD program. Seconds later, I knew my application to join the PhD comm program was rejected. So, I emailed the head of the Comm. Program to confirm my rejection. Her response was that she was very sorry that my application status has not been updated due to technical error and that the department had to cut down the number of admitted students to only two Phd Comm students due to covid-19. Honestly, I was shocked that AU offered me to join the Master's seminar even though I already have one and I am not welling to spend additional two years doing a degree that I already have. I am not surprised for being rejected from the PhD program because I know how competitive the school is. However, I was shocked that they offered me to attend an online session for MA in Media, Technology and Democracy.
  6. Hey guys. It has been a while for me since I have posted/checked/updated the website. I have spent the last week not even checking my email or application status. Thanks to the Zoom call, I was able to relax for a few says and take a few things off of my mind. I cannot wait for tomorrow's call!
  7. twosweet and NJGrad2025 it was my pleasure meeting such incredible and strong people like you two! The zoom session was absolutely wonderful and honestly I felt relaxed. For the first time in weeks I was able to sleep eight hours and not stress about checking my email and portal status! How about another round of ZOOM call?!
  8. Hi there, There is no harm in emailing the program coordinator at Cornell. Just a simple email and they would respond. As long as you are not emailing a POI or the head of the dept, then you are fine. Email the graduate coordinator of the program.
  9. Just heard back from CU Boulder and they told me that they will get back to me in two weeks! I have seen on the result page that some students have already been accepted into the program ten days ago or so. I emailed the department back and asked them if it is a rolling admission process or a regular admission process. Their answer was regular admission and that the department has not yet finalized their decisions. Does that mean I have a chance or two weeks mean a preparation for a rejection email?
  10. Hey there, You can check the results page and check which applicants got accepted. I am in the same boat as you are, different schools though. The wait is killing me too. Have you tried emailing the departments of your universities?
  11. I got rejected from UW-Madison 3 rejections from (NC State, Corenell, and UW-Madison) Here is what is left (CU Boulder and Florida State) I applied to American University (AU) but I doubt if they will even look at my application because I did not submit the evaluation course (Too much expensive!) I got accepted to Arizona State but waitlisted for funding though!
  12. I just received a rejection from NC State, I kinda expected that honestly, even though I had a tiny moment in the past few days that I was getting accepted to the program. However, two down, four more to go!
  13. I have not heard from them yet either, I emailed the department yesterday but no response. I am not sure if the next cycle of e-mails will be rejections since those who got selected are already accepted.
  14. Hello, Let me first start by saying there is still a chance that you could get into USC this year. However, if you don't, then the following is very important for you to read. You are applying to a small number of a highly competitive programs. UPENN and USC. I would say UW-Madison has a mid-high comm program, but certainly not like the first two. When you apply to graduate programs you need to have low expectations, regardless of the ranking of the university or how good the program is. I was given the chance twice to apply to UPENN, I even spoke to Marwan Kraidy who was the head fo the program (No longer at UPENN), I called him on his office phone. From what I heard and understood is that the program is really good but not very well-equipped for my research interests. Therefore, I scratched UPENN from my list two years ago. However, in 2020, I decided to see if the program maybe has altered their research trajectory, but they did not. I received an email from the new Head of Dept. stating that they have no qualified faculty member to support my research as their knowledge about my research is very limited, only Kraidy had the knowledge but he is no longer at UPENN, as stated earlier. So, the bottom line just because it is UPENN it does not mean it is a good fit for me. Now, in your case, regardless of what your research interests is/are UPENN might be an option for you. However, UPENN is considered an Ivy league school like Duke, Cornell, etc. Therefore, my advice, when you apply next time, create a list of the programs that you know the likelihood of getting accepted is higher than those ivy league competitive schools. Make sure your list has reasonable expectations, it does not mean you apply to any random program, on the contrary, many good schools offer better educational system than the ivy league ones. Again, there is no harm applying to ivy league schools, that is perfectly fine, but do not make them the sole focus of your admission. Focus on good schools that offer good funding and have proper research facilities and affiliation with different organizations that gives you the space to go outside the box. Therefore, if you apply next time, aim for two ivy league schools and five top-notch good schools like Arizona State, Texas State, Boulder, Denver, etc. https://www.natcom.org/nca-doctoral-program-guide The link above is a website called the National Communication Association (NCA), and they list all universities that offers the best PhD Communication programs in the United States. I hope this helps you in the future if you did not hear from USC. Good luck!
