  1. I believe that, if you wanted to be considered for a Master's degree in lieu of a PhD, you had to indicate it in your application and I had to complete additional aspects and short essays for the program I was interested in. According the FAQ page on GSEP Admissions: "Apply for a PhD program and answer "Yes" to the question on the application form that asks you if you would like to be considered for a master’s program (indicate the master's program for which you would like to be considered). Your application will be considered by both the doctoral and the master’s admissions committees if there is a corresponding master’s program to your proposed area of doctoral study."
  2. Hey, I'm SURE I'm not the only person compulsively checking their email for any indication from Stanford. I recently set up notifications JUST for the admissions department to notify me on my phone for peace of mind. If anyone is interested in also doing that, here's the article I used for reference: https://www.howtogeek.com/208904/how-to-only-get-notifications-for-emails-you-care-about-on-your-iphone/
  3. Yeah--that's a great question. I'm not on the admissions team, so I don't really know! My guess would be to confirm that those applying are motivated to complete the entirety of the program and have clear, tangible career goals outlined for themselves. There are definitely things that I said in my interview that weren't explicit in my SOP. Take all that with a grain of salt--I also have not heard back since the interview!
  4. Oof! That's the worst! The professor who interview me said that they have had a LOT more applications that usual this year. As the great Tom Petty said, the waiting is the hardest part. Good luck!
  5. I applied to the PhD in CTE with a focus on Teacher Education and Literacy, Language, and English Education.

  7. My interview was really short--only 15 minutes! I prepped by googling common PhD interview questions and drafting responses, and I was ready for it to take up to 30 minutes. My impression was that the interview wanted to get a sense of why I wanted my PhD and what I planned on doing with it. Because the PhD cohort is going to be really small, I also got the sense that they were seeing if candidates would mesh well together.
  8. Hi! Interviews are up to the faculty members, but generally an interview is a good indication that you've made it past a certain level of screening. I had my interview on 1/22, and the professor told me that they will likely be releasing decisions around 2/13.
