  1. Wow, thank you so much! That is absolutely wildd news to me. I accepted their offer and declined Tyler and BU, but I really hope they have more spots and that you get in too
  2. Hi, yes I was accepted on March 8th after interviewing in February.
  3. Committed to University of Massachussets this morning
  4. Anyone else not hear back from Tyler yet? I've seen that both acceptances and rejections have gone out to certain people
  5. Also since a ton of people are waiting on Tyler and you seem to be the first to have heard back, would you mind sharing your major and how/when they got in contact with you (email, portal, phone, etc.)?
  6. Hi! I am similarly stuck between UMass Amherst and BU (still waiting on Tyler, but I spoke to a current student yesterday and don't think I'd be happy there after all). To me, UMass feels like the smart choice because of the fantastic funding and stipend, but I'm not sure if the right/responsible choice is ultimately the best choice (does that make sense?). UMass would have much more of an impact on a teaching career since it is a three year program structured to build professors, but less on studio development since it is so far removed from any gallery scene. BU on the other hand would have much more of an impact on my art making and potential path as a maker/showing type artist but that's obviously a gamble and an entirely different lifestyle. Tyler (sculpture) is much more theory based with a lot of time spent reading and developing your mind, but Philadelphia as a whole has A LOT going on and Tyler artists have a lot of pull in the gallery culture around here. Feel free to PM me if you want to chat with someone in a similar position
  7. I did, but they do ask for proof so make sure that you don't embellish or lie at all!
  8. Eeek! They are going to reevaluate my package, FINGERS CROSSED!!!
  9. Yes to all of that!! Also making sure that your written components are incredibly tight can show that you are able to find the language to define yourself as an artist in conjunction with your work. I tinkered with my artist statement for a year and a half to really get the specificity that I needed, and I also refined my description blubs for several months to make sure that they were pulling their weight. In each of my interviews I was complimented on the strength of my writing skills which helped me take a risk in disclosing the presence of my learning disabilities as a major subject for the art that I make without fearing that it would work against me. A solid statement is often what can push a portfolio into the accepted category if they have slight reservations about your body of work. pro tip- keep a working log of description blurbs in a document to pull from because you cannot always go back and access what you wrote after you have applied!
  10. I think people definitely do when they have heard from all of their choices and they have made a deliberate decision-- I think it gets a bit murky if they were never formally rejected from a few places and they are still holding out hope so they wait until the last minute to pick from their available options.
  11. Has anyone been officially rejected from VCU (sculpture)? Also can I ask how they reached out to those of you who were invited to interview/accepted-- email, portal, phone, etc?
  12. Does anyone have a template for politely countering an offer?
  13. Accepted to UMass Amherst (3 year program)!! They waved tuition and offered me a teaching assistantship with a stipend and health/dental insurance covered
  14. Congratulations!!!!!! That's SO exciting
  15. Congratulations!!! That is so exciting, I'm thrilled for you
  16. Thank you!!!!! I'm really happy about it! I can definitely manage finding enough outside scholarships to cover the rest of tuition so it makes the idea of moving to Boston somewhat more affordable. This is my first acceptance and I had a few more interviews (from funded programs), so I am definitely excited to at least have some security that I will be attending school in the fall :')
  17. Boston University sculpture just sent out acceptances They reduce their graduate tuition for art students by half already, and I received a 50% merit scholarship on top of that.
  18. I interviewed with sculpture (the last week of February?? compared to painting mid January???) and did not receive that email, so it seems like each department is truly separate from each other and has completely different timelines and methods of communication. Not to mention, in previous years it seems like they had already sent out decisions by this time so maybe covid is just really throwing them through a loop.. are there any other tyler printmakers out there who have had interviews?
  19. Can we just let everyone on this forum shoot their shot despite what school they are going to. Everyone here has a different story with a different background and different schools fit different people for a million reasons. We get it that you are a curator at a gallery that you run who only looks at where people go to school-- but you are not indicative of the entire art world and we are all just trying to get where we are going. Just please, let everyone have a chance at finding what ever level of success they are happy with no matter what MFA program they do or do not end up in. Not everyone here is trying to become a billionaire business person disguised as an artist. Can we just calm the ego talk down a few notches and let it all go.
  20. This is pretty common at a lot of schools tbh, and becoming more and more common each year specifically for the promise of wealthy international students needing no aid, which is then supposedly supposed to give schools the ability to have more funding for US students.
  21. Has anyone heard back from UMass Amherst post interview? They contacted me last week about whether or not I would be eligible for a specific fellowship which is a good sign about funding, but I haven't heard anything since. I was told that BU and Tyler decisions will come out mid March, but UMass said beginning of March, so I'm on the edge of my seat. Doesn't help that by this time last year all of these schools had already sent out acceptances, too much anticipation ?
  22. Obviously.. but if they are just trying to get a general idea, then talking to the former students that you know will be of no help either. Why be a contrarian when you already jumped in with prior students experience?
  23. This might be a bit tedious, but if you can't find any info in other places-- try searching on the 2019 or 2020 freak out forum to see if you can find some people who were accepted and posted about their aid just to give you some sort of idea what they offer
  24. What program did you apply for? I had an interview with the sculpture department on the February 24th, and they said I would hear back in the middle of March. I think I heard that people had interviewed with painting as well, but I'm not certain.
  25. I guess that makes sense, but from what I have seen in my own little circle it doesn't always happen that way. Statistically, sure there might be higher "odds" but odds aren't always indicative of personal experience. I mean both Alex Da Corte and Jonathan Lyndon Chase went to The University of the Arts for their undergrad, a less competitive school-- then Alex went to Yale and Jonathan went to PAFA, a less competitive school. Alex is 10 years older, but Jonathan's career is REALLY gaining monumental steam after graduating a few years ago. So you just never know-- and going off odds and prestige alone doesn't paint the whole picture.
