  1. If you mean a necessary component for being accepted into programs, no not in my experience. I got into 3 out of 4 programs I applied to with zero research on my resume /in my background. However like the other person said it might depend on the school. I think every msw program has a required research course, if that’s what you’re asking. You don’t have to do a thesis though.
  2. I think what helped in my case was that I knew going into the program which specific orgs/agencies I wanted to do placements with. So I basically told my coordinator “please help me get into this place” which may have been less work on her end? Idk, it worked out well for me tbh but there will always be a variety of experiences
  3. The advice I have received from social workers who have been in the field much longer than I have has been that doing your msw in the city where you live & are settled in is a very smart career move, in terms of building connections/your network/job opportunities. I turned down an offer from an east coast school to stay in BC as this is where I am for the long haul. I did my bsw at UVic and had a great experience overall.
  4. You can definitely change your mind. You’re not locked in at all. I initially accepted the offer to Dal, then got accepted to UBC (Vancouver), and changed my mind. I just emailed Dal saying I changed my decision and would no longer be attending. I just lost my deposit, it was no issue.
  5. For me it was April 2. I know that if a student is offered admission but the school needs additional documents (for example official copies of transcripts), they will give you a longer grace period so you have time to give them whatever they need. I would guess sometime first week of April? Wishing you the very best
  6. I got the offer via email. Wishing you all the best
  7. I know UBC Vancouver isn’t talked much about here, but I got an offer for the Advanced program today. Just for anyone who applied & is wondering
  8. I’m not sure why you haven’t heard from Dal yet - I heard from them last month. Maybe there is a certain order in which they notify applicants, ie. Canadian citizens first? You seem like a strong applicant. My understanding of what they are looking for experience wise is directly related to social work/social services. Wishing you all the best
  9. Haven’t heard yet. However I am accepting another offer. Best of luck to you! I also did the BSW at UVic and had a great experience at the school.
  10. So I checked my online status this morning and it says Accepted - Deposit requested still waiting for the email though. In the email you received, did they provide you with any information about funding?
  11. I got a letter in the mail from the school of social work in early Feb telling me that I was recommended into the MSW program. It said that the final decision is made by the faculty of graduate studies, and I will receive an email from the registrar if/when my application is approved. I’m still waiting though :s my understanding has always been that when students are recommended for admission it’s virtually certain that they will be accepting. So it’s just a bit confusing that other people are having a different experience...?
  12. Hey, I can’t answer your question but I was recommended for admission to Dal for Sept as well. Have you received official acceptance yet? I’m still waiting to officially hear from the registrar
  13. Has anyone else received a recommendation for acceptance from Dalhousie? I’m still waiting to hear if I’m officially accepted
  14. I haven’t checked my application portal in a while so I have no idea what it says, but I didn’t receive an email from them, only letter in the mail. I’m doing distance
