  1. Looking at their past timeline and this year's "accepted" posts for their PhD program, I think the odds of getting an acceptance at this point aren't too high. Maybe they're selecting to whom they should offer entry into master's programs? All guess work, of course. As for your question, I don't think it would hurt to try contacting professors you're interested in even if it might be too late. I don't think CMU BME is rotation-based, so there might be professors who just haven't accepted anyone yet because they were busy or something. I'm not planning on reaching out to anyone because I'm not planning on choosing CMU. They're not really a good fit for me - I wouldn't be surprised at all if they thought the same and rejected me. I only applied because my POI had said he will recruit only one student if his funding situation allows and that I seem like a good fit for his lab. Chances were slim and I wasn't too interested in other labs but I applied anyway. I've also already been accepted into one of my top choice programs. Still, I'm curious about how their application process goes (for my friends who plan on applying in 1~2 years), so please let us know if any of your POIs get back to you and mention anything about what's going on!
  2. Hi everyone. Just checking with you all that UCLA is not a rotation-based BE program. It admits people directly into labs, right? Because the lack of decisions on Gradcafe is confusing me. If it was direct admission, shouldn't some people have been accepted by now? So weird.
  3. Guys is it just me or do rotation schools generally send out offers BEFORE their recruitment events and direct admission schools generally send out offers AFTER their recruitment events? If so, what are some rotation schools that did this and what are some schools that sent out offers for direct entry to a specific PI? The ones I know that sent out PhD offers before interviews are BU and Yale, but I don't know of any other ones.
  4. No one around me has said they heard anything from Harvard BE, but their ME/MSE department has sent out offers and only two people have posted their acceptances on Gradcafe. I think there's a fair chance that the person who said they've been waitlisted for BE is telling the truth. Looking at the timeline, Harvard has sent out rejections within a week from sending out offers. So I guess you'll be hearing back soon regardless of whether you've been accepted or not. Good luck! The Harvard ME/MSE cohort is around 10, by the way. Their BE cohort is likely to be small too.
  5. I'm not sure what you mean about JHU, but the committee has already sent out official interview invites. If you did not receive this invite, it means you did not pass departmental screening. Even if they wish to fund someone directly from the 1st year, PIs cannot take someone in if the applicant did not pass screening. Don't be discouraged if this is you, because apparently the department is not funding a lot of students this year. I think all BME programs across the country are short on funding this year for some reason (especially those in California), while the number of applicants has significantly increased due to Covid causing employment issues on a global scale. I don't know of anything on CMU BME, but I wish you the best of luck. For those who have gotten into at least one PhD program this year, congratulations. You should feel happy and excited about your acceptances instead of dwelling on your rejections. I really think we need to be a glass-is-half-full type of person about grad school admissions. Despite this year's competitive admission cycle, I still believe that rejections are simply redirections. Who we meet along the way and the lessons we learn are much more important than the program itself, imo. Let's make the best out of what we are offered. With that said, I think a lot of schools have yet to send out their decisions. Here's to getting admitted to a program where we meet genuine and talented ppl.
  6. Dude, me too! Will you be going? Are there any other schools you're waiting for?
  7. Does anyone know if JHU BME is planning on a second round of formal interviews or is this their final pool of candidates?
  8. individual coordinator if listed. grad admissions department when there was no individual coordinator listed.
