I can't believe this, but I just got my first acceptance. I got an email from the University of Maryland, with details of TAship. I am so happy. My heart is pounding its way out of my chest right now. I'm shaking and crying, and my heart won't stop pounding. I can't believe it happened. I am so overjoyed, I can barely type, or move, or breathe. I am so happy. It feels unreal.

Syracuse-Helen Zell-Rutgers-Iowa-Michener-and now I can't think of programs beginning with P... Pittsburgh?

Are we counting those two (Iowa and Michener) out? I still feel like there are some calls that have to go out, especially because there's not been a very large number of acceptances for those two schools announced so far, especially Iowa, obviously. But, yes, at some point, I'll have to concede and accept that it's over.

I've been keeping track of the Iowa notifications and I hate myself for having gotten to this point, but, so far, it's: - 2 acceptances in Draft - 1 on GradCafe (from one person referenced above from Draft) - 2 on Twitter - 2 that I'm not sure about because the info didn't come directly from the applicants: one comes from someone who said that their friend received an email from Iowa and another was someone on Twitter congratulating their friend who got in. That's all I've seen.

Iowa takes in like 50 students each year. That's a lot of notifications to send out, a lot of calls to make, and, so far, there is one post indicating acceptance on GradCafe and two posts in Drafts. I know the chances are slim, but here's to hoping that not all of those IWW calls went out today, and some more are due to go out tomorrow.

I cried today when the Michigan rejections came rolling in. Then I ate a whole bag of M&Ms. And then I cried some more.

Is it common for acceptance notifications (via phone) to come on weekends? Asking because I'm thinking about not carrying around my phone all weekend anymore (in addition to the weekdays...lol).

Maybe I'm overthinking this, but I'm here wondering about whether the phrasing of the status updates are indicative of anything at all. For schools like Brown and UMich, my status just says 'Submitted' and for others, like Iowa and Maryland, there's 'In Progress' and 'Under Program Review' or some other variation. Does 'Submitted' literally mean that the application hasn't progressed beyond Admissions, or does 'Submitted' cover the movement of an application from Admissions to the Program to the moment the applicant finally gets the call?

I've been lurking for about a week since discovering this site and I finally created an account so I could drop in and say thank you for all the insights and great conversations I've seen here. I don't feel so alone anymore on my MFA journey and I feel less stressed just knowing that there are other people in the world with interests and aspirations that are so similar to mine.
