  1. I was accepted off of the waitlist at Washington yesterday and accepted at North Carolina this morning...no word on finaid for UNC. The roller coaster goes on.
  2. I called yesterday and they said they still had no word on my application but to call later in the week, finaid will hopefully be more sorted by then, too. Their semester seems to end next week so surely it will be before then.
  3. I mean--the only people who will believe with complete conviction that it is very bad professional form are people who don't understand how complicated this process is. In this economy, anyone who can accept an offer of admission without waiting to figure out their finances is a very lucky person indeed. For many of us, the financial aid determines whether or not we can attend that school--I just see no other way for many people to handle this situation. I don't know if it'll ruin your reputation, and I'm in the same boat. I guess we'll just have to see. Good luck!
  4. Congrats to you! No word for me, I figure it's another implicit rejection--which is OK because I've gotten pretty settled on Pittsburgh since UNC has taken so long to get back anyway. This finaid stuff is such a pain, though, and I hope everyone sorts their stuff out all right!
  5. Still haven't heard! This makes me so nervous. I keep telling myself it's because my last name starts with W but who knows. I have a MAJOR issue, though, with all of these schools I'm dealing with--Pitt won't tell you if you're getting finaid through their Partners program til late April--yet want your response to admission by April 15 (I've been told I can probably get an extension)--so how on earth can I make a decision about any of these schools with all of these different dates? I can't say I am going anywhere until I know if I will be funded, but I don't want to jeopardize my chance to go to Pitt by waiting to hear back from other schools...so frustrating! Is anyone else having this problem?
  6. Called UNC today. The story is that they are going through a massive pile of people to email this week. The adcomm met this afternoon and they hope to have everyone mostly informed by the end of the week or so. So, not to worry if you haven't heard.
  7. Still quiet. Hate life. Congrats to the acceptances, though! UNC is such a great school
  8. I called UNC Friday and was told that I should hear at the end of the month--Hilariously, 2 weeks after the end of the month I will have to decide where I am going and I'm sure I am not the only one in this boat. I hope UNC sends out financial aid information out at the same time...
  9. You're right on track economically. I am, though, more afraid for the job prospects involved with getting a PhD in literature...which is why I went into library science. It's kind of insurance for me--it reassures me that I can find a job doing something, that I didn't spend years getting the degree, and that it will prepare me for any future studies that I might want to embark on. If I want to get a PhD in literature later, cool. Right now, though, I'm more concerned with giving myself the most stable start of post-school life that I can. I was hell bent and determined to go into English for a while but after doing a LOT of research into the field/job market, I made the decision that it would probably be better for me to get a professional degree that would say "Hey, I can DO something" instead of potentially being a miserable temp for years before taking a job that I hate in a college that can't afford to pay me anything--after spending 6+ years in a PhD program. I am looking into going into academic librarianship, hopefully culminating in a PhD in library science. I hope I am taking the route of "some sort of job that I won't hate" instead of "I can't find a job and have to do things that I hate", but who really knows anymore. What scares me the most is that Pittsburgh (the school I have had the most interaction with in terms of acceptance/funding/etc.) is being threatened with a roughly 50% cut in funding--just like every state-affiliated school in Pennsylvania. Bad times all around. I just hope the MLIS was a stable decision that will work itself out in the end! I enjoy it, if nothing else.
  10. Thanks for all the help, guys! I'll just sit tight and wait for a response, I'm also waiting for a response from UNC regarding my MLIS application, so I have a little time before I would really need to know ASAP.
  11. I never heard back. Implicit rejection, I guess? The more time I spent on these boards the happier I became that I only applied to 2 lit schools...seems like library science might really be my calling after all.
  12. Nope. No news here...They were on break last week so I figure I'll wait until Friday to nose around--I've heard back from 4/6 schools I applied to and I'm getting nervous about making decisions! Surely everyone should hear back soon, though, right? Maybe?
  13. Thanks for the update, Infalliblekitty! Didn't get one myself, but at least there's a date.
  14. I'm glad someone else still refers to themselves as a "sissy"--I just don't hear that enough.
