  1. So did anyone here get accepted to Michigan (for the social program, not personality and social contexts)?
  2. Hi Starlight! Penn State will be sending out decisions within the next two weeks. Best of luck to you! And congrats on U Mich!
  3. Woohoo! Just got emailed for a phone interview for Penn State!
  4. That's awesome! I looked at the Washington University in St. Louis program. Good stuff there! Let us know how the interview goes...
  5. socialpsych, Thanks for the calming words. That's good to hear. I won't freak out yet. Until I hear about those on campus interviews... was yours a phone interview because of distance?
  6. Hey socialpsych, So who called you from UC Davis? I haven't heard anything yet. Who are you interested in working with there? Also, would you add your interview to the results board when you get a chance? Thanks much!! Edit: I'm such a spaz! Can you tell I'm a little anxious? Congrats and I hope the interview leads to an acceptance!
  7. Sorry to be negative, but I was told by a faculty member at UC Davis that the budget cuts mean less funding for grad students this coming year. He didn't say whether they would be admitting fewer students, just mentioned that funding was in jeopardy.
  8. Hi Ammo, where all are you applying? Have you heard from anywhere yet?
  9. 10. And they're all in. Let the panic begin.
  10. Ugh. I shouldn't have asked.
  11. Can I just ask everyone who is posting results on the results search to PLEASE specify your area of psychology (ie social, developmental, clinical, etc)? I won't freak out so much when I see interviews and acceptances posted for schools I applied to if I know you applied to a different sub field. :| Thanks and good luck to all of you!!
  12. Oh hell yeah. That's me for sure. I think there are three programs I could just as easily have left off my list. But oh well. The apps are all in now. I definitely have the same fear as you: that I'll only get into one of those three. Yikes.
  13. I have a 3.91 GPA, 770 subject test GRE score (psychology), 800 verbal, 650 quant, 4 writing on general GRE. Senior thesis research project with poster presentation. Summer research assistant for one summer. We'll see if it's good enough!
  14. Check out the community "applyingtograd" on livejournal for help with SoPs.
  15. Apps for my programs (social psych phd) came out in August and September. Due dates for the programs I'm applying to are between Dec 1 and Jan 15. I started seriously working on them around the end of October. I would definitely recommend looking at this years app for the programs on your list so that you can get a head start with the statement of purpose and personal statement. I wish I'd started those sooner.

Since I'm applying to ten programs, there wasn't room to list all of them in response to the "where else are you applying" question. So I listed a few that were most directly in competition with the program I was applying to. Since I'm applying to programs with an applied focus and programs with a basic research focus, I didn't tell the basic programs I was also looking at applied, and vice versa.
  17. Several of the programs I'm applying to also request that you don't call to check on your materials. The most extreme is Penn State (for my department anyway). They say not to call them, and they won't call you if you're missing anything. So basically, if something doesn't get in, you're screwed.
  18. Yeah, I agree with drpsych. I certainly didn't mean to equate the quality of the undergrad training with that of the grad. Just throwing out some arbitrary information about ASU. Right now my top picks are probably Penn State, UC Davis, and UCLA. But that seems to change daily, depending on whose website I've been reading.
  19. Yeah, Arizona's not at the top of my list either. I'm mainly interested because they have an option to focus in applied social psych. I don't really know much about the quality of the program. I know ASU is not well thought of for undergrad, so that makes me nervous. UCLA, Michigan, UC Davis, Connecticut, and Penn State are my top choices. I can't seem to narrow it down to a top one or two. I don't know if that's good or bad. I've got six of my ten apps in now, so that feels good. The seventh is due Monday, and I have three more due in January. Whew. Hows your application process going?
  20. Yes, contact the program you applied to. Let them know that the letter will be late, and approximately when they can expect it. I'd say waiting until Jan 1st is too long from a Dec 9th deadline. I'd imagine that the adcom starts reviewing applications at that time, and they'd need all your materials. But that's just a guess. Contact the program and ask. Good luck!
  21. Yeah, the Michigan personal statement was challenging. Especially since I didn't see the 500 word limit until I'd written a 900+ word statement. I don't think they're looking for members of disadvantaged groups though. Or at least not exclusively. They just want to see how you can bring a unique perspective to your research.
  22. I'm interested in prejudice and stereotyping. I'm interested in working with Neuberg, Nagoshi, and Russo. Unfortunately, Neuberg will be on sabbatical in the Fall, so he's not taking any students. And Russo is retiring. So... I guess I'm interested in Nagoshi.
  23. I'd be willing! I just hope I get an acceptance to react to...
  24. Who are you interested in working with at ASU? What are you research interests?
