    MIT?

UCB = Berkeley? I got into UBC = University of British Columbia, in Canada. Does that explain it? =)

    MIT?

Congratulations Azazel, that's a huge achievement. I do hope they are still sending out a few more. P.S.: Just for the sake of my curiosity, could you post your "stats"? What do you think gave you the edge to get into this program over the competition?
  7. Hi!

    Thanks!

My stats are 84% UG, B+ MS, 800/600/4.5 GRE, 117 TOEFL, 2 co-authored international papers, 1 international paper under review. Nothing too impressive.

I did get a positive answer from the professor right after the interview via Skype, but I'm not sure if that's the standard.

Good luck with your applications as well!

  8. Hi! I'm going crazy here waiting for the Cornell and Harvard SEAS results. Has anyone heard anything from these programs yet? Anyone got any idea of what their admission/rejection process is like? Finally, if say I don't hear from them for a couple more days, would it be ok to call them and ask about my admission status?
  9. That sucks...
  10. Ouch... That's terrible!

  12. Nice video. It's quite true as well. I often get told by my friends that I try to rush through life, I guess that's what they mean! Thanks for sharing the vid.
  13. Here's the quote from the rejection e-mail: "We received 1,1200+ applications this year and were able to admit about 8%." Probably a typo. Bummer for the rejection though...
  14. Wow, that's terrible... Thank God I didn't get any fake e-mails from my schools like that, I'd be mortified!
  15. Thanks for your kind answers, everyone! I'm glad to say I did find a solution - a PS3 with Move and GTA4 / Dead Space 2 / etc. Didn't even think about the applications today! haha

  18. When I applied for the PhD back in December I knew it would take about three months for me to get a response from the admission committees. I was fine with it too, I made my peace with the long wait and completely threw the whole thing out of my mind and focused on other things. All was well, until about last week. A colleague from my lab got her acceptance from CMU and a short while after I got an acceptance from one of my safety schools. Now I positively can't stop thinking about the applications. I'm moody, I can't concentrate on anything and I check my e-mail every 3 minutes. Each time the phone rings or a new e-mail arrives I'm hoping it's from one of the universities. Any tips on how to deal with the anxiety? Cheers.
  19. Hey newms! I have a question about these open-houses. I think I might have some visa-related problems, so possibly I might not be able to get to the US in february / early march, but rather in the first week of april. Do you know if this is ok with the schools, that is, if they wouldn't mind if I visited on another date? Thanks!
  20. I've got another question. I wrote my SoP a while ago, but I didn't mention anywhere that I completed a 4 year bachelor's degree in 3 years. Should I mention that? Do you think it will be seen as a good thing, or a bad thing?
  21. I sure hope it does then... hehehe
  22. So I did manage to submit that paper to a strong conference, but I was told I can't put any information about it on my curriculum because it's a "double blind" style submission. So basically it will count for zero. Possibly less than zero, since I didn't have time to prepare for the subject GRE. Sucks to be me.
  23. Allright... Thanks a lot anwyays!!
  24. Sounds good, thanks! Any clue on the California thing?
  25. Yea, that's what I thought too... I would only be able to send it though, the replies on whether it got in or not would probably come in mid-january.
