  1. I got the email around 3:30, and it just said that I was accepted- didn’t get any notif about a waitlist prior.
  2. Just got accepted to Laurier! I will be declining it and accepting UofT. I'm excited that this means a spot will open up for someone else
  3. That makes a lot of sense! I honestly think that although they may have a plan, they really won’t be able to say if it will definitely be in person- just because of how quickly things have been changing with the pandemic. This is definitely a stressful time to be making big career/school decisions. I wish you all the best!
  4. I think it’s quite unclear whether school will be fully remote- it depends on how the variants affect us, rates of vaccinations etc. I would assume that regardless, most social work placements will be at least partly in person. If you’ve landed a FT job you’re really excited about, I see no harm in deferring your acceptance to UofT. More work experience in the field is always good- and is a great opportunity to clarify your career interests. That way you may have a better idea of what you want to get out of your masters when you do get it.
  5. Anyone know how many applicants there were this year for Laurier 2 year?
  6. Looks like there is one! Here is the link: https://www.facebook.com/groups/1071656829976018/?notif_id=1618329592390315&notif_t=group_r2j_approved&ref=notif Let me know if it works.
  7. My friend heard back from Laurier last year on April 15th (2 year). So I don’t think they’re running late yet or anything!
  8. True. These people went to UofT which I know is known to be more “clinical”. I’m sure experiences vary person to person though!
  9. If you’re set on practicing therapy, the MA will better prepare you. I have two friends who completed their MSWs and both said it did not prepare them well to practice psychotherapy. If you’re interested in a variety of positions, then an MSW is def more generalizable and opens up more doors!
  10. When are we expecting Laurier two-year decisions?
  11. Agree. There should really be interviews for social work imo.
  12. To clarify- do we still only know of ONE person who received a decision for the UofT 2 year? (the person on the other forum who was rejected last week?)
  13. If I’m remembering correctly, I received my waitlist decision in the evening (2 years ago)...
  14. Horrific!! Wouldn’t it relieve so much stress if they just told us exactly what days they would be sending out decisions?
  15. Just wanted to give you (and the rest of the people on this forum) some encouragement: a reminder that it's really not the end of the world if you don't get in. I'm sorry that you have to deal with your parents' pressure- I'm sure that's very tough-but remember that you can definitely still work in social work without an MSW- and if anything, getting more experience will clarify your career interests and you may end up getting more out of the program if you decide to do it in the future. Many people who don't have an MSW are successful in the field (and have less debt! haha). From looking at your posts it seems that you're in your last year of undergrad? remember that it's quite difficult to get in straight from undergrad (especially if your grades are on the lower side) and I hope you don't take it too personally if you are rejected. You are still worthy and will do amazing things in your career! With that being said- good luck to you! and to everyone.
