  1. Well my journey for my graduate degree in Design has come to a slow stop.

    Yale - Rejected

    EKA - Rejected

    SVA - Accepted (no aid)

Otis - Accepted (scholarship 50% aid)

ArtCenter - Accepted (scholarship 50% aid)

Still deciding between Otis and ArtCenter, it has been a hectic and costly journey.

Wishing everyone the best of luck, and thank you for answering my questions!

Did you apply for graphic design or fine arts? I was late in the game to apply to EKA and regret it...? their program feels very strong and experimental. I am really interested in Otis as well. I totally feel you on the debt issue...

    Hey!
I applied for Graphic Design, I saw you posted prior if anyone else got accepted to Otis for graphic design.
    I got accepted to Otis!
EKA seems like a really great program especially the semester abroad in Berlin. I had an interview on the 19th of March and am still awaiting to hear their response. They mentioned it is a fairly new program so I'm curious on how it would stand with my other schools.

I've been accepted to ArtCenter, SVA, and Otis and am awaiting from EKA.
Regarding SVA - I've heard some mixed responses regarding their program and school administration specifically the design program.

Let me know if you have questions!

Well thats disheartening. But do you think that the opportunities at Otis arent as great as SVA or that you would rather be in debt just for SVA's opportunities?

That's a really great question that I've been asking myself this whole time.
I've also applied to ArtCenter in Pasadena, and EKA in Estonia and am awaiting their decision.
What I've seen with Otis is their student work is conceptually strong, and there seems to be a strong connection with industry studios in LA, they also have some international offerings which is great.

However if you know anything about Otis let me know!!!

I think personally for that matter of debt in attending SVA and the quality of life I may have paying off that debt is not worth it for a MFA in Design, it's my top pick and it hurts a-lot to say but I simply cannot afford that. As a $150k in debt plus interest over time may be a $200k and more.  :( just wish the school was more supportive.

SVA Fine Arts? Because I asked for a job placement as an RA/TA but they said that the dept doesnt offer that

No its SVA Design - the job placement would be in the school so like tech, studio aid, photography aid, nothing outside, not even as a TA.

That's exactly the dilemma. And I was hoping somebody here would help me on it. My motivation to go to SVA initially was its faculty and the fact that it has a lot of reach and provides good networking opportunities for its students. But in contrast, Parsons is way cheaper and I probably won't even have to apply for loan whereas I would've gone into considerable debt for SVA.

So is the debt worth it for all the opportunities SVA provides? Or should I rather be debt-free?

Also, another's question- SVA originally offered me 8k but when I requested for more, they brought it up to 32k (for both years combined). Do you guys think I can negotiate more now that I have Parsons in hand with a much better scholarship? Or is that just rude to ask since I've already requested once before?

I'm in the same dilemma also.
I was also super motivated to attend SVA due to its faculty and the opportunities it could provide once I graduated. However once I did my financial modelling I realized I would be around over 150k in debt including tuition, rent , food. etc. I reached out to them and asked if they offered any financial support and all I got was a job placement at the uni for 5k - 20 hours a week per semester. I feel a bit defeated due to this, and even if I were to apply to the scholarships provided I would still be in a lot of debt.

I got an offer for Otis college of art and design in LA with 50% tuition covered and this is looking like my new path now.

I totally know where you're coming from and trust me you're not the only one.

  6. Does anyone know about ArtCenters decision making process.
I checked the application portal and it says 'Decision Sent' but I have no clue if it's through email or mail, considering I am an international student I am weary if it's through mail.
Also if I even got accepted of rejected - there were no interviews for me.
    Any knowledge??

A curious question about MFA Graphic Design in the Fall – If financial aid factor is not considered, ArtCenter or MICA?

    (My undergraduate was at MICA)

Wait did ArtCenter send you an acceptance?
I haven't yet received neither a rejection of acceptance.

And based on your question I think both are great choices to pick from, and it would be more based on what you would like to get out of your degree. I think both schools offer really different offerings.

Well idk if this will be of help but I did talk to a current student at fine arts and he said that most acceptances in the fine arts Dept come around mid- March along w financial letters. Although I got my acceptance way earlier in mid Feb which I assume was a sort of early acceptance. Maybe you could've received one of these early acceptances too. And maybe, just like me, you should too wait a bit before they send financial letters later.

    Got you!
This makes sense, especially considering that acceptances are taking place in mid March.
This helps a lot and has helped me calmed my nerves, thanks so much!

When did you get the acceptance letter? Because I've also been accepted

I had an interview on the 23rd of Feb, and received an email of acceptance the following day. I accepted, and placed my deposit.... but now I'm worried I won't receive any assistance.

Hey, did you apply for a departmental scholarship? (In the handbook that the chair sent the accepted applicants there should be a link to it)

    Hey,
I did not, I had no clue there were departmental scholarships, I received a pdf with my acceptance regarding scholarships to apply for but that's about it. I hope I didn't miss my shot!

  11. Hey everyone,

Has anyone received any financial packages from SVA?
I applied and got accepted however I have not received any financial aid or scholarships, which is now completely shifting my decision of attending.
