  1. That would make sense!
  2. Thanks for reassuring me that I didn't screw up the application! I'm wondering if the site is down, or if it means our applications are in review.
  3. I'm finding it impossible to wait until Feb 17th. I've been checking the sites every day or so, even though I know they won't be updated yet...this wait is going to be strenuous!
  4. Hi everyone, I just logged on to LORIS (for the hundredth time), and my application has disappeared. it says I have no current applications... can anyone advise me as to what is going on please? TIA
  5. Hi, I'm applying for the one year MSW Mental Health Stream. Good luck to you too! As far as I know, there are no interviews. I have submitted my application package, and all my references have been sent in. it is my understanding that I only have to play the waiting game now.
  6. Hi all, one of my references, my only professional one, has submitted one reference, but has not submitted my other ones. She is ignoring my texts and emails. I have a new supervisor that has only known me for a month, but I'm very panicked and thinking of asking the new supervisor. No one told me that getting my references submitted would be the most stressful part of this process!
  7. Hi, I read that too. I saw on the FAQ page that the application closed MID DECEMBER. I've also found DECEMBER 15 listed in the graduate studies admissions page. https://socialwork.gradstudies.yorku.ca/files/2020/07/msw-application-faq-july-20.pdf?x44859 https://futurestudents.yorku.ca/graduate/programs/social-work
  8. wow Congratulations!
  9. Hey! I am applying for next fall! I've just finished my applications. I had poor timing submitting some of my applications. I submitted some in early Oct, but just got a new job a week after, so I've only been able to include that in half of my resumés... oh well... ive applied to Carleton, Ryerson, York, UofT, and Laurier. when explaining how ill finance my education I simply put that ive been working hard for the past few years saving up, so I will not have to work full-time while in school. I linked that into the questions about how I will handle the demand of coursework. I also mentioned some fo the scholarships I was applying for, and how they would aid in my being able to focus on school.
  10. Hey! I'm currently working on completing my application to Laurier, and am wondering how folks went about filling out their Experience Profile... How did you "give evidence of your skillsets, self awareness, and knowledge that you possess that prepares you for the MSW program"? I guess I's stuck on how to further talk myself up, I did that pretty well (I hope), in my statement of interest and resume...
  11. Thank you so much for posting this! it is reassuring to hear that you've been through this, and it is interesting to hear how you framed your experiences! I will focus on reframing my experiences! I'm curious, how detailed of an explanation did you go into when they ask "how do you hope to use your education in the future"?
  12. thats what I'm aiming for too! I honestly do share your concerns, which is partly why I am applying to schools that have a reputation for focusing on GPAs and grades over work experience.
  13. I also have a spread sheet I find its easiest to figure out what each school wants and do the general paperwork first (resumé, why I want to be a social worker, reference letters, transcripts...), then do the individualized paperwork last. I always take the most time and effort with the individualized paperwork, so it feels less heavy to have the other stuff out of the way by then. thats my process anyways. good luck!
  14. Hi! I know that UofT puts a large emphasis on GPAs and your research methods course grade. I'm pretty sure Laurier chooses to put emphasis on work and volunteer hours in the field. UofT wants three references, so perhaps make two academic and one from work, while Laurier specifies that they want one academic reference and two from work/volunteering.
  15. Hi, I am graduating with my BSW from Dalhousie in September, I am hoping to do my MSW as soon as possible, but I don't have any paid work experience in the social work realm. (I have a BA in Criminology already, I went directly from one degree to the other). I have a 3.81 GPA, an A+ in my research course, and have over 1000 hours of volunteer experience in the last few years. My top schools are York, U of T, Carlton, Waterloo, Laurier, and UBC. Do folks think it would be worth it to spend money to apply this fall, or should I wait to get a year or two of paid work experience prior to applying? TIA!
