  1. Yeah, sorry if the response was curt. I'm sure if you applied there for an MA program and you got in and went it would be enjoyable. It's fairly small and probably relaxed and probably rewarding in it's own way. I just wouldn't stay there for a phD. Best of luck...
  2. For those interested in applying to phD programs in Canada I would say just apply to Toronto. If you want a well paying job (or a paying job/or a job) coming out of your degree it's wise to stick with U of T. As a Canadian, I know that Americans seem to focus on McGill, but as far as I know their English program is nothing special. I am currently a U of T student.
  3. I have not heard anything from Stanford since I submitted my application. Good to know I am not the only one.
  4. Stanford does interviews? This is news to me. Anyway, I talked to one of my professors today (who is good friends with Roland) and he said when he was at MLA his "friends" said they were still reviewing applications and so I probably shouldn't worry about it until end of Feb/March...
  5. I say go travelling. Don't let applications stop you, so long as you have access to internet I don't see what the problem is. I took a trip to Cuba (where there is pretty much no access to internet) for a week in December because I had a nine day slot where no applications were due. It was wonderful. You need stress relief sometimes. Anxiously waiting by your computer and refreshing your inbox is no way to live. Do yourself the favour...
  6. Is Columbia's the same? I am pretty sure it is 1,000 words. I checked and doubled checked and submitted 1,000. Fuck me if I am wrong. I know that Columbia's was 500 last year, but this year I read 1,000. BLASDJLFKASDL
  7. Yeah, it was! I love Marina and I love Franco, whom I have nicknamed Franco Fox for my own personal amusement.
  8. My friend's brother has a theatre/literature class with him currently at Yale--he won't give us any details about what he's like though. I think Franco is fascinating. And I am sure if he wasn't a good candidate the graduate program wouldn't have accepted him, regardless of his fame. He can lead a successful life without a Ph.D, so unless he *really* had something to offer, I don't see why they'd accept him. I wonder how many rejection letters he got! Also, I saw a video of him sitting with Marina Abramovic at the MoMA. I am convinced this guy is my dream celebrity. I am sure he is really smart.
  9. OH man, I just wanted to say. I wrote the GRE today and I got the JAMES BROWN (!!!) test. It made me chuckle. Over all, I felt like I lucked out with the version I got.
  10. Wow, thanks for that lengthy replay. I write the Subject Test this Saturday (the 9th). Wish I knew about this earlier. Damnit. The more you know, the more you realize you don't know. sigh.....
  11. Already have M.H. Abrams on my side. We're a power couple.
  12. Thanks for letting me know about the ETS book. I think the problem with being in Canada is that there's a general ignorance surrounding the GRE. My professors have been as helpful as they can be, but of course, they wrote the GRE years and years ago. I've heard that there are more theory questions on the test lately, is that true? Also, what about modern stuff? Is there more on that these days?
  13. Hi Guys, I posted my question elsewhere but it hasn't been answered. I'm wondering where I can find practice tests for the English Literature Subject test. I have the Princeton Review (somehow I feel like it isn't very good), the ETS practice test I lifted from the ETS website, and the ETS practice test I received in the mail. If you know of any other places I can find samples--preferably on the internet and preferably for free--let me know! Thanks so much, e
  14. Hello Everyone, I am wonder if you could help me find some GRE English Literature practice tests. I have the one in the Princeton Review, one I've printed from ETS, and one that ETS sent me in the mail. Are there more floating around the the internet? Preferably free? Thanks, e
