  1. Question to those who already have multiple acceptances - Have you decided which program you want to ultimately attend? When are you planning to let the programs you won't be attending know that you are declining your offer?
  2. I don't wish to come off as a jerk, but isn't Madison a bit too higher ranked to be a safety? I didn't apply there, but if I had I'd have definitely considered it as a reach school. Then again, our profiles are very different. Best of luck for the rest of your applications!!
  3. Congratulations!!
  4. Congratulations!! Absolutely massive news!
  5. Emory acceptances have begun to pour in on the results page. Anyone claiming any of those?
  6. Happy Monday you fine folks! Hope this week brings many acceptances for you. As for me, I'd be perfectly happy with a single one.
  7. I contacted a few of them. Most of the responses I got were extremely generic. Maybe I contacted them very late, which could be a reason for the generic responses. At the end of the day, I don't think it would have mattered as much. Most DGS's I emailed said that, while I was free to contact potential supervisors, admission decisions were taken by the committee as a whole, and the pairing with supervisors would happen much later (after completion of coursework).
  8. Got an acceptance from Temple University (PhD), but waitlisted for funding. To be honest I feel more dejected than happy, since without funding, I have no means to attend it. The wording of the email seemed like getting funding ultimately would be a bit of a long shot, but let's see how it goes.
  9. Finally done with all 8 of my applications, with FIU being the last one. Now the Long Wait begins for me. Hope everyone here is doing great!
  10. Someone on reddit got an interview from University of Washington, so I guess the programs which would have an interview are already starting to send invites.
  11. Hi @PolishPhD! I'm in a bit of the same boat right now, in the sense that if I get rejected from all the American universities I applied to this cycle, I'll start my PhD at an Indian university, and apply again next cycle. I just wanna ask as to how you mentioned your current PhD in your CV and SoP, and how did you explain applying for a fresh PhD?
  12. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays everyone!!
  13. Thank you, this is very helpful! I managed to find a youtube playlist for this course, so hopefully I can get the most out of it.
  14. Since we have some people in this thread who are already enrolled in their PhD programs, can anyone give me the syllabus or reading list for their quantitative methods courses? My quant training hitherto has been pretty abysmal, and I'd like to do some catch up.
  15. Ah thank you so much! That definitely helps me a lot.
  16. As an international student who studied really hard for a good GRE score, this is extremely disheartening. Unlike domestic students, most of us from the Global South have very few opportunities to get research experience. Our GPA's would be lower because of archaic grading schemes, and our Letters of Recommendation are likely from people unknown in the West. That only leaves the SoP and the GRE as a level playing field (even in the former, not having access to the same mentoring opportunities with people who are familiar with American graduate system is a crutch). To hear that a high GRE scores means literally nothing is pretty sad for me personally, and I guess my chances of getting accepted anywhere is pretty much gone now. It was good knowing you all, I guess I'm stuck in my country for the rest of my life.
  17. As someone from an educational system very different from the American kind, I think I can chime in a bit. Here, every professor already has too many (between 4-8) doctoral students to supervise, hence they are not really lacking when it comes to research assistants. Such opportunities are thus very rare at the undergraduate and graduate level, at least in the social sciences. Hence most students have very scant actual research experience when applying to a PhD. One way to get around this is through internships at think tanks and policy institutes, but due to covid, even such opportunities were quite rare. As a result, I don't really have any formal research experience. I have made a few research enquiries of my own, and presented papers are graduate student conferences, but I'm not sure if they count as much. In any case, I'm still applying, and hopefully the other parts of my application can pull me through. I have applied even more broadly, also applying to schools outside the top 50, so hoping to get at least one (funded) offer.
  18. I have an offer of admission from an Indian university (well technically not an offer as yet, but I have interviewed with them and I'm confident of getting an offer by next month). If I strike out entirely, probably take up the offer while preparing a few Spring applications. If that doesn't work out as well, I guess I have to wait for a post-doc to immigrate.
  19. Tangential question, but do admissions committees know if you took the GRE at a test center or at-home? I took my GRE at a center this November, I really hope it's considered by the committee since it's fairly high and I need it to do some heavy lifting to make up for my less than stellar graduate GPA.
  20. Definitely email the admissions committee letting them know of this situation. Mostly likely once you receive your new scores, the university would receive them as well and add them to your application automatically, but it's best to inform them of it.
  21. Anyone applying to Northwestern and whose recommenders are yet to upload their letters? I have one recommender who still hasn't sent his LoR, and I'm freaking out a bit because the university page states that the deadline for ALL application materials is 10th. Now granted they probably do have an internal grace period for letters of recommendations, but I really don't know how much of a delay they are willing to tolerate.
  22. Thank you! I contacted them, and they pretty much said the same. However, they also agreed to receive recommendation letters directly, which is what I'm going to tell my professors to do.
  23. Northwestern, USC, Kansas, Cincinnati, UNL, FIU and Pittsburgh. I'd be more than happy with a funded offer from any of them.
  24. Graduate applications are very expensive, especially for international students not usually applicable for fee waivers. This is a a compilation of fee waiver codes for different universities. If you know any more codes, please mention it in the replies. Thread -
  25. Anyone applying/applied to Northwestern and having trouble with their Letters of Recommendations? My professors are saying that they are asked to make an account or something, and there is no way to skip that. Wanted to ask the people here before I contact them.
