  1. The other thing I didn’t know was that while they take 3-4 students for photo they try to have a distribution of focuses. I.e. as a process based photographer I’m really competing for one spot. One spot will likely go to someone with a more documentary focus etc.. so it’s a bit different than other schools that way. Not sure if that is true with other mediums. (This is anecdotal from current students)
  2. Most of the questions were generic but one which threw me was what other faculties you would want to work with. Also what do you want to get out of the program and what you will contribute to the program. I didn’t get in ( got waitlisted) but I’d recommend doing their drop in tours, it’s an opportunity to speak one on one with current students. Wish I had done that in advance. The students were very candid.
  3. I had the same thing happen at Columbia and just got my waitlist notification like 3 days ago. I did email before that and they did’t really say anything other than wait. But emailing the admissions department never hurts.
  4. Hey! I’m going to dm you I’m meeting with parsons fine arts in person on Thursday. The more research I’ve done the more amazing the program seems which has kinda been the opposite for some other programs, that said Hunter has a stellar reputation and great price. I didn’t get in otherwise it might be at the top of my list but I never got far on research.
  5. Do you know have some of the issues with studio space and access to faculty that were in the news in 2018 at Columbia been rectified or are there still problems there?
  6. Congratulations! just wondering what it was about the Parsons program that made you pull your application. Currently accepted to Parsons fine art, Pratt Photo, Saic photo, sva photo Parsons is feeling high on my list but I’m an international student and don’t know anyone who has been through these programs. Would love any insight.
  7. I wonder if they ever award more later once acceptances happen, I got a 50% award from two schools but will of course only go to one. I wonder if that scholarship will then become available to someone else?
  8. Congratulations on RISD!!! I applied for photo not sculpture
  9. Hey all, I got accepted to Pratt photo but do a lot of sculpture work, wondering what the sentiment is about Pratt’s sculpture program from people more in sculpture world? Once I’m in I’ll be able to work between disciplines I believe. I feel like I’ve seen good things mentioned about the program but would love any insight.
  10. No I haven’t seen anything, they did just open up new labs I think so maybe busy?
  11. I also have not heard from UCLA photo assuming it’s a reject but who knows ?
  12. Hey thanks for creating this forum! I’m applying mostly photo but with a strong interest in sculpture, probably 30% of what I do so I’m really interested to know peoples thoughts on the programs I’m looking at from a sculpture perspective. SVA photo accepted, but I have a connection to public artist Andrew Ginzel on fine art faculty SAIC - accepted Columbia, Parsons, Pratt (interviewed) and all interdisciplinary UCLA - crickets
  13. I interviewed with Columbia Tuesday for Photography, it was a lightning round interview 10 questions with exactly 20 minutes. I was left with 2 minutes to ask about the program. They said it would be in the coming weeks to hear back. I hope weeks means soon ??
  14. Any Canadians in here who would like to compare notes on available grants? also the waiting game is so hard!!
  15. I heard back from photo for an interview Tuesday but every department is different I think. I still haven’t heard anything from UCLA even though it seems they already finished their interviews in other departments.
  16. It was in photography, I did interview Saturday but I think every department is different. Good luck ??!
  17. About 20 minutes after I got my Hunter rejection I got SAIC acceptance with 50% tuition award, having a roller coaster of self worth today but remembering we are not for everyone and our worth is not based on acceptance or rejection. Hoping you all get some good news today!
  18. Also just got my Hunter rejection ? also waiting on Columbia but also a reach for me. Wishing you luck!
  19. It seems like UCLA painting interviews went out but I haven’t heard anything from photography. Hopefully this week!
  20. It didn’t really feel intense, the first two questions did feel like they were intended to see how you think on your feet so I don’t think they were expecting something perfect, after that it was more conversational. That said with non open ended questions it does feel awkward because it’s not natural. They ask, you answer and they move on to the next question. I think In retrospect I wish I had given broader answers to the specific questions that created dialogue.
  21. Had my Pratt photo interview today which I think went well but the first two questions were surprises so thought I’d share them. 1. describe your practice in exactly 5 words 2. what should we know about you that isn’t in the application then they asked about a specific piece, what I’m reading and one more typical question. Hopefully that helps someone out there ?
  22. I have my interview with them Tuesday, but it’s for photo which is a smaller dept than fine art. But should be soon!
  23. Has anyone interviewed at Parsons fine art yet? Mine is tomorrow and would love any tips:-)
  24. It was in a phone call, I haven’t gotten the formal letter yet. I think the photo program is quick relative to other programs .
