?Hi all, I used to finish my undergraduate study in the U.S., as an international student. I switch my PhD track to a different area, like from computer science to statistics. I used to have some evenly matched options when I chose my offers, and I finally chose a university with large frame, a well-known and good advisor, and a higher stipend. However, I did not like this university, although I do love my lab and my advisor, they are good. This university is located in a small town, and it is very inconvenient for me to live. Moreover, the quality of our lab graduates is also declining (although still better than my other options so far). I hope to change this tendency when I decided to choose to study here (ok maybe this idea is a little naive). However, my lab mates warn that I will regret if I do not choose academia in the future after they heard about my offers during my application cycle. In fact, from the first day I came to this university, I have lived in a great conflict. I don't know if it's normal or abnormal for me to feel this way, and I'd like advice from everyone. Thank you.

I withdraw the CMU-Pitt program and apologized to my interviewed professor, then I received the rejection letter.

Hi, does anyone intend to share your ideas?

I mainly focus on the possible career between the studetns from these two programs. I will focus on machine learning and computational biology in the future, both programs have good advisors. Therefore, I wonder if Ivy really can suprass big name university in CS or not, especially for salary. Thanks a lot

Hi, does anyone hear from CMU-Pitt program? I applied to PhD but did not receive any ac or rej or interview. I also applied to CMU CS PhD and also heard nothing from this program. Pretty strange, is there anybody in the same situation with me? Thanks. P.S.: I got offer from UW CS PhD, which I believe is more difficult to get admission comparing with the programs I mentioned above. I used to interview with one PI of CMU before my application, who is in the committee. Thanks.

My GRE is V147+Q170+W4.0. I wonder for PhD program in biostatistics which requires me to submit GRE (like Yale), do I need to retake the exam and "refresh" the score? I am an international student from UIUC majored in electrical engineering with minored in computer science, and I have got five papers so far (2 related to machine learning, 1 related to biomedical image, 2 related to computational biology). and three recommendation letters (one is from a famous professor in Yale). Hello everyone, I am a student from UIUC and I study with an electrical major and a computer science minor. I got 3.85/4.0 for GPA, and I believed I will not submit my GRE grade. I will list my background here and could anyone please tell me that whether I have a good chance of getting accepted to Yale or not, thanks. For my research experience, I have got three pubs so far, twos for EI conference papers (oral and best presenter award), one for EMBC 2021 poster paper. However, they are related to scheduling problems and machine learning and they are not related to computational biology I think. Currently I am working in one lab of Yale and plan to get at least two pubs. One pub will be one journal paper in TOP journals, and the other one maybe a workshop paper in NeurIps 2021. I am (or will be) the 1st author in these papers. For recommendation letters, I plan to submit four recommendation letters. Three of them are related to research, and the last one will be from a course instructor (I plan to work with him this semester). The research recommendation letter from Yale's professor will be a strong recommendation letter. Thanks a lot.
