  1. No Stanford email for me either... perhaps it's a waitlist on its way?
  2. Also, last year's waitlist email came at 4:45 pm EST on the third Friday in February. So, yeah, I'm going to be a nervous wreck by 4:30.
  3. Hate to say it, guys, but silence almost always means a rejection. There are some schools that stagger admissions over a week, but if it's been 3 weeks since you saw an admit posted on the results page (edit: and confirmed in the forum), the assumption should be a "no."
  4. Since this is tangentially relevant: Am I the only one not buying into "Linsanity"? Kid's been good for about 5 games, so let's calm down about the HOF talk. Also, I was on an intramural team in college. Of the 13 of us, the other 12 were all Chinese. (And we won our league.) Why is it surprising that an Asian-American can play basketball?
  5. Anyone get their official details from Madison yet?
  6. I agree that if I had to guess, I'd put Princeton on tomorrow - last year it was Friday at 5, right? So this year, too?
  7. I don't know if it's better to check email first, see nothing, then think "please no Princeton, please no Princeton" as I let the results page load, or to wait until I see a school on the results page, then think "GO ON MY SON" as my gmail loads. I think I prefer the second.
  8. If anyone applied to work with Chris Blattman at Yale, he just posted on his blog that he's moving to Columbia next year. For doctoral students accepted at the latter institution, he'll be supervising on the political economy of development.
  9. I've been wrong with literally every prediction I've made this year, so who knows.
  10. Yeah, I agree. At this point, I'm 2 for 2 on official decisions, but fully 5 of the other 6 schools have apparently sent out admits - so I could well be 2 for 7 right now. Only Princeton has been silent, and I expect that will change this week. So I really just want to know if I should start looking for apartments in New Jersey or Wisconsin, really.
  11. Congrats on the UG acceptances. Let's hope other admits roll in today.
  12. At least she didn't think it was actually a circus.
  13. Actual conversation with a parent: "How long does it take?" "The PhD? 5 years." "So you just got your BA, that means next year you'll get the PhD, like four-and-one?" "..."
  14. It's true, and will be something to think about. I'm not freaking out about funding or anything; just trying to map the various decisions that have to be made. What does everyone think of the results page conversation going on about Yale's interviews?
  15. Will have to follow up on this. British family can't wrap their heads around it either.
  16. Cheers, bruv. On the other hand, if insolvency forces me to drop out after three years, then nobody wins. Also, I will have a family to support. But the point is well taken; a grand here or there isn't as important as setting oneself up for a long and successful career. True that.
  17. I posted this in the main thread, but here's the UCLA offer:
  18. So I just got off of the UCLA funding waitlist. The offer is tuition remission, fee waivers, and $24,000 first year. Years 2-5 I'm guaranteed a TAship, starting at ~$17k and rising to about $20k by the end of the program. Notably, there's no mention of health insurance, though apparently there is provision for housing assistance. This is great news, but I don't think it'll budge me from Madison. As nice as $24k would be, it'll drop considerably second year, and living expenses in LA won't be very good. For anyone on the UCLA fellowship waitlist, I'll probably be declining the offer unless Madison's funding is atrocious.
  19. Another Yale interview up. Any takers? Edit: And another. Either it's a silent generation of Yale admits, or the trolls are worried we've cottoned on.
  20. See "Bus, thrown under." @coach: nicely done. I'm taking my lady here for the set lunch.
  21. I don't know, the Chandelle thing is throwing me off. Also, what's the Yale consensus? Why 2 random interview requests last week and an acceptance this week? Fake? Like I said: flummoxed. Edit: Also, Google Analytics tells me that my personal website received 5 hits from the greater San Francisco area.
