  1. Sure. I sent in my application on January 2nd heard of my acceptance on January 26th. I was alarmed at how quickly they came to a decision. Just as an update, I'm deciding between a few different schools but will attend Hunter if I decide to stay in New York and never asked NYU for more funding. A few people have gotten bigger offers than mine, so I definitely suggest lobbying for more money if it's your top choice. Good luck!
  2. Got my acceptance today! I went complete around Jan. 5th. I really thought I'd finally made a decision, but this is making me question everything...
  3. I moved to NYC right after I finished undergrad to attend the NYU Summer Publishing Institute- a 2 month long program. We went to the same career fairs as the masters candidates and ended up taking the same jobs-- despite not having any experience. I worked at a big publishing house for a year and a half and never heard of anyone I worked with having bothered to get their masters in publishing. I would seriously consider whether or not you need this degree to get the job you want-- are they giving you funding? What percentage of graduates get jobs within the first 6 months of graduation? Are they able to skip the basic, entry level positions? If you're interested in editorial, your starting job is an editorial assistant regardless of your education level. I don't know how it works in other departments, but I'd assume that work experience is more highly valued than a degree. If you decide you absolutely can't live with out a masters in publishing, Pace has a program that is significantly cheaper, so at least you won't be in debt when you finally get your entry level position. I don't know anything about PR or advertising. Good luck with whatever you decide.
  4. Everything I've heard thus far about NYC MSW programs can be summed up in this: go to Hunter. The idea of NYU's well-regarded clinical track is a big draw, and even one quick stroll through Columbia's campus leaves me feeling like a more important person, but I have not heard any alum from NYU or Columbia who suggest that you will get the same perceived value in education that you take out in loans. All of the schools, Fordham included, send students to the same field internships. If certain schools were known for their private, personalized relationships with certain placements that would be a game changer (although I don't know how I'd actually feel about that, to be honest.) Some of the same professors at Columbia even teach at Hunter! My sense is that some of the extra cost pays for hand-holding. I wouldn't expect or tolerate having to jump through the same bureaucratic hoops at an Ivy that I would at a city college. There's also the opportunity to take some of your electives within other departments or schools within the larger university or pursue a more extensive dual-degree. The facilities are nicer - I would imagine? It's a pretty nice feeling to tell your family and friends that you're going to Columbia for grad school, let's be honest, and I'd be interested in research done on the financial earning power over the course of one's lifetime based on name recognition of schools alone. All of these are good reasons for some people, not good enough for others. All this to say that I would also love to hear thoughts from others who are making this decision or have already made it. Tell us why the private schools are worth it!
  5. My Hunter application went complete on 1/6 and I had the group interview on 2/14. I found out today that I've been accepted by viewing my status update on my application page. Good luck to both of you!
  6. I was recently accepted to this program. The interview was comfortable and relaxed and focused on my work experience, my reasons for applying to SP2, and my career goals. My GPA /GRE are similar to 2011 MSW Hopeful, and I have 4 years of direct service experience. I submitted my application 1/1, received an interview invitation via email within a few weeks, scheduled my interview for the next week and received my acceptance about two weeks post interview. The admissions team was incredibly helpful throughout the process, and I found the interview to be a genuine extension of the good vibes I'd already been getting from this program. I'd suggest you call them directly for questions regarding admissions statistics. Good luck!
  7. Got an email this week about the Hunter group interview! It seems that they do a few of them each month. Good luck!
  8. I reached out to a friend who is finishing up her last term at NYU and she seems to think this is a pretty serious offer, based on what she's heard. No harm in asking for more, but certainly not making any decisions yet. I'll update if anything changes. Has anyone heard from UMich, U of C, or CSSW? I've heard that Berkeley and Hunter don't usually start sending decisions until much later.
  9. Hello All-- Found out today that I've been accepted to NYU's 2 year MSW program. They are offering/estimating $7,000 per year of scholarship funding. Should I assume this is a low-ball offer and that they are expecting me to ask for more? Would appreciate any advice or experiences that might be helpful. I have not received any other acceptances but am keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks very much.
