  1. I have accepted my offer from UCLA! I received a Cota-Robles fellowship as well, which is really motivating for engage in work that is important to me beside teaching during the "off" years (especially in the community)!
  2. Definitely worth checking in. I recently reached out to a school that I REALLY liked and full-on told them that their funding was significantly lower than my other offers. Although I don't think that my offer can be adjusted much (if at all), I want them to have these insights moving forward so that others might be offered more competitive wages.
  3. Hey! So, the way that I see it, it really does come down to fit. One of the best scholars I know (presentations at all major conferences and not even at dissertation stage yet) was only accepted to two schools after three application cycles. The community at the school they are at now (a VERY good and renowned program) loves and embraces them as a scholar, and they have absolutely blossomed at the institution they are at now. I think there's something more to this than just rigor and ability -- I genuinely believe that it really does come down to fit in the end. As a department chair recently told me, if a program accepts you, they are also making a pact to support you in your work and scholarly development, successes and failures, and all of the in between moments. As for a conclusion, I personally would chalk it up to fit! They see not just potential in you -- they see your successes and want to be a part of all that you have to offer to your field!
  4. Is anyone else going to be making a big decision in the coming weeks? I'm finding myself stuck between all five programs that offered admission and funding (UNC Chapel Hill, UCLA, UCSD, Case, and CUNY Graduate Center). Those in a similar boat: how are you going about your decision? What factors are you weighing?
  5. Not a word, and they had told me that we'd hear by early February...today marks the end of early February lol
  6. Any updates over the past few days? I'm a fellow performer, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you!
  7. I haven't heard anything from Harvard either. Seems like nobody outside of composition has heard anything, and I believe in years past it has taken musicology a bit longer than comp to send out updates. Not sure about music theory though!
  8. I'm sure that it went much better than you think! My UO advisor told me recently that they "always" go better than you thought! Keep your chin up! Fingers crossed for you!!
  9. I have an interview with CUNY next Friday! Nothing post-interview from UCSD and Eastman, super kind emails from UCLA faculty and a request for my official transcripts today, and waiting to hear about the fellowships I was nominated for at UNC Chapel Hill. Silence from NYU, Harvard, Case, Chicago, and UVA.
  10. Thank you! I'm really excited! Exciting fellowships tbd...fingers crossed! Minimum offer is excellent so far.
  11. Can't speak to the theory side of things, but I can certainly say that things have been quiet for musicology too! I had my Eastman interview on Friday and solidified my acceptance to UNC Chapel Hill. Other than that, no new information. I have six schools I haven't heard anything from yet, including three schools with the Dec. 15th deadline. Hoping we hear more this week!
  12. I have not yet, no, but I saw that someone heard back about composition. I hadn't been expecting to hear anytime soon since those apps were just due less than two weeks ago, but it's great to hear that they typically send them out around this time! I'm high-key hoping to wake up tomorrow to some news, but I had forgotten that tomorrow is a day off for most schools! Have you heard anything from UChicago? That's one I'm hoping to hear from soon!
  13. Thank you for this! Which schools did you apply to for ethnomusicology vs. musicology? I'm curious because my work tends to blur the lines between ethnomusicology and musicology, but verges ever so slightly on the musicology "side" of things. I'm hoping to really incorporate a mixture of methodologies in my work at a PhD program! Hope that you are also surviving this wait!
  14. Thank you! Yes, I believe that UNC has changed their policy, as the DGA told me he was conducting a number of interviews this past week. Weird that they didn't do interviews before! That said, I'm sure that this isn't necessarily an indicator of anything bad yet, especially since it's so early, and since many schools do interviews in waves and since you've been accepted before. I hope that you hear from them soon! Do you have an Eastman interview this week then? All my best for that interview!! It'll be interesting to see how the process continues to unfold.
