  1. I have a professor from my undergrad who currently teaches at Yale, and she was on the admissions committee this year. She told me that they had even more applications than last year, but she mentioned that they ended up taking about 4% of applicants. It honestly feels high given how few they took last year. It's just outlandishly competitive... I don't know the first thing about being 'impactful' or having research that 'fits' - I thought I did, but so far it's been silence...
  2. Ah, yes, this is helpful. And also kind of what I feared. Haha. I was hoping to focus on 19thc BritLit as well, and I doubt they're going to take a whole handful of us. If you end up working with Kent Puckett at all, soak it up. He's awesome and really supportive! Best of luck and thanks for sharing. ❤️
  3. Hahaha, yes they do... I've definitely been held hostage by this forum more times in the last month than I care to admit. So awesome!! Would you mind sharing some of your stats / your focus / who you had hoped to work with in the department? Trying to gauge my own compatibility with those accepted... Hahaha
  4. https://www.thegradcafe.com/survey/?program=English That's where I'm looking - I saw a rejection a couple of weeks ago, and this morning there was one acceptance. Super happy for whoever got it - it's an incredible department and Kent Puckett is one of the kindest human beings on the planet. Just curious about their process!!
  5. Can anyone claim the UC Berkeley acceptance on the board? I'm really curious as to how they're doing things this year... They rejected a handful, and now today one person has been accepted but it seems all else is quiet? Just wondering if this is one of those slow-moving, nonsensical scenarios where they weed through apps at their own pace and maybe don't accept everyone at the same time? (Can you tell I'm trying to rationalize the very small chance that I may still be accepted, because this is my top choice and I'd do almost anything to get in? Ha) *FWIW: I'm fully expecting a reject because I went there for undergrad and my chances are laughably slim.
  6. Yup. Mine, sadly, has said 'submitted' for literally all of them... total radio silence. One of my schools apparently is doing interviews. Someone got waitlisted yesterday at one of the schools I applied to... a couple weeks back someone was rejected from one of the schools I applied to... but total silence otherwise. 7. I'm seeing one waitlisted human for Yale... DYING to know when they're going to accept / reject / waitlist the rest of us! Also, anyone else hear anything from UC Berkeley or Notre Dame? 8. I have a professor who I've kept in touch with over the years. She's at Yale, now. I applied there, and I emailed her to say thank you for writing letters (to all but Yale, ofc) and she got back to me with a warm remark but also to say that they've seen even more applications this go around. I feel that's going to be pretty on brand for the industry. /sigh. Best of luck to all of us participating in this lottocracy! ?
  9. Anyone else on here checking their emails a million times a day and watching other departments release decisions in envy?
