I always considered The New School an excellent choice, but check into how much it costs. It really appears to be a place for p.w.m. (people with money). Lots of money to go there... Now up to$1800 a credit hour... I would go there If I won the lottery or had a sugar momma or daddy willing to pay for it....
I am seriously considering my ma/phd future and would like to know if anyone here knows anything about the following programs: university of Kansas, Kansas state, university of Missouri, southern Illinois at Carbondale? I have looked at the websites and I like what I see, but wondered if anyone else had any insight into these schools. I am interested in political sociology, culture, gender and historical comparative and qualitative methods.
I went to a Jesuit school for my undergrad, specifically saint louis university. I feel I got a quality education and that
Catholicism wasn't really any part of the sociology program. I would say go for it if you can afford it...
Just curious if anyone knew about how many Sociology Phd's are graduating every year and the percentage of them that are getting teaching jobs? While I have been pondering pursuing a master's and/or PhD in Sociology I feel I might be too old to get a job when I graduate. I'm 39 so I figure I would be pushing the upper 40's before I would get a PhD. With so much competition for jobs I have debated whether or not pursuing this would be a wise decision, especially on the financial front. I would have to move and quit my job.... I have also contemplated a MFA in writing among other things as this is another field of interest, and/or at the least just takng a few classes for fun.
Any thoughts?
