Out of curiosity, what's everyone's research area, and if not listed as your signature, where are you applying? My focus is Modern Europe, specifically Germany, and my research focuses on the legacies and memorialization of German anti-Nazi resistance groups from the 1940s to the present day.

To my knowledge, Northwestern does not do formal interviews. Your PI might do an informal one with you but that varies depending on subfield and the professor. Fingers crossed you hear soon! What is your research area?

My last recommender uploaded her letter for my January deadlines, and now all of my applications are officially complete! Any advice from the seasoned pros on how to make it through the next two months of waiting? I feel like I'm Mark Zuckerberg at the end of The Social Network, but instead of refreshing the page to see if an ex accepted a friend request, mine is my application portal.

So, I just found three typos in my writing sample...how screwed am I? They were a typo, a missed citation, and a comment of "unpack" I forgot to take out. It's a pretty long sample; any chance they won't notice?

I only had one professor tell me that; most of mine, until recently, have just been e-mails saying they're not taking grad students. For that one professor, he said he doesn't meet because he doesn't have say in the admissions process. So maybe that's why yours are declining?

I'm limited to more liberal areas of the country since I'm non-binary (born female) and would really like to not go back in the closet for school or worry about my rights being taken away. I have a list of more schools that I can keep emailing to see if I can find someone; however, I was just curious if others were getting similar responses that professors weren't taking new students due to the current state of history and academia.

Is anyone else having difficulties finding PIs in your field who are accepting students? I'm currently 0 for 4, which includes my top choices. Also, if they're not taking PhD students, would it be a waste of time to apply to the MA program? Thanks everyone!

Hi All, I decided to throw my hat in the ring for this application cycle instead of waiting another year to see what happens. My focus has been on Ph.D. programs, but I also want to add some fully-funded MA programs to my list (thank you to everyone who complied that original post of MAs with funding!). I’ve found a few that look promising, but I was wondering if any of you knew of any additional programs or ones I should prioritize that focus on 20th-century Germany.
