yeap, azuela and borges are a bit too complex. if you don't have problems with fuentes or sabato you could try vargas llosa (same level of complexity). a good start might be some short narrative like monterroso or arreola (pd what kind of texts do you enjoy more? fantastic fiction, realism, romanticism?...)

actually it depends. im applying for spanish and portuguese (about half the applicants are international) and usually our departments answer to all applicants at the same time.

bueno, tengo mucha experiencia en novela de siglo xx, especialmente de posboom (menciono en mis statements que me interesa investigar la influencia de borges en el posboom), aunque como he aplicado a masters antes quiero sondear los temas porque también me interesan crónicas indígenas de la colonia (especialmente de la zona andina)
