I recently accepted my offer to Carleton for 2 Year MSW Fall 2024 start. I am hoping to connect with some others who will be starting there in the Fall. Let me know if that’s you and you want to connect or if you know anybody!

Congratulations! :) Were you on the waitlist initially? I'd been wondering if anyone who was waitlisted had heard anything back yet as I'm hoping to get accepted from the waitlist!

I officially got my rejection email today for the one year and was waitlisted for my other school. I know some others have already been accepted to Lauriers one year, so I am sure everyone else will hear back shortly.

I'm not sure if I should just take the year to improve my application to make it stronger or maybe consider more schools when I apply next time around. I only had very few volunteer hours, some respite work, plus my previous practicums for experience and an overall A- GPA, so I wasn't too hopeful of my chances, I tried to write strong statements to make up for it.

Good luck to everyone else who applied for the one-year track at Laurier!

Hoping that 2025 will be my time.

Crossing my fingers that you get accepted off the waitlist at the other school for fall 2024! 😌

This might be a silly question but I just want to confirm something - does a full-time final year consist of 5 courses?

im wondering because i took courses sporadically in my last year of my bsw (example, 2nd year - 2 courses in my first semester and 3 in my second semester). In my offer my condition if that I receive at least a mid B in my final year of study - how many courses would that consist of? Or do the amount of courses not matter?

A full time course load for an entire school year is usually 8-10 classes; so 4-5 classes per semester. But I think as long as you maintain a mid B average than the amount of courses you're taking won't matter? To be completely sure, I'd contact the school you got into to ask. :)

Yes haha. But 70-80 percent acceptance rate. CASWE-ACFTS and CSWE have reciprocity. Not my first choice, but it's a choice!

I admittedly considered this as well because I have family in the states until I remembered student loans probably wouldn't even cover half of the tuition/fees 😂 I hope you get into uManitoba so you don't have to go with this option!

Carletons Website states "...We typically receive 160-180 applications for the two year MSW program, and approximately 80 for the one year MSW..." That's about  14 percent(?) chance for the non-BSW applicants.

If it makes you feel better, Carleton also rejected me. I have 30,000 human service hours, 3.4 out of 4.0 GPA for my current master's degree in another field. 3.53 out of 4.0 for my undergrad degree. Also received diversity points for 3 categories. It sucks, but I'm not giving up.

Best of luck to you. I'm holding out for Manitoba. If that falls through, I'm just taking a program in the USA then transferring it to Canada. Something to consider.

Oooof, a program in the states?? Wouldn't that cost a lot more than a program here? 😩

  6. Got waitlisted for Carleton's non BSW program for the second time :'). Considering the fact that they send offers out to 35 people it makes sense that more than 10 declines are needed for offers to be made to people on the waitlist. I calculated and since they made offers to 9 people on the waitlist last year and the program is only big enough for a cohort of 25 people each year, that means 19 applicants rejected their offers last year. (meaning 16 people accepted their offers and they needed to fill the cohort which explains why they made offers to 9 people on the waitlist). Either way, good luck to anyone who's also on the waitlist, and I hope you receive positive results from the other schools you applied to :)

Hi Everyone! Just got my acceptance earlier today to University of Windsor MSW 2 year steam and it included a Scholarship for first year🙂 Wanted to connect with others who also got in!

Also need some advice as they only gave 21 days to accept or decline and I am still waiting to hear back from the following schools below, but the time lines might not add up and I'm not sure if I should accept Windsor on their deadline if I don't hear back in time from anywhere else? I would ideally like to weight multiple pros and cons of the various schools before making a decision.

I also applied to Carleton MSW- should be hearing back soon in Feb

Western MSW- the website said you'll hear back by march

Mc Master Psychotherapy -got shortlisted and did the interview and they said decisions will be announced in March

And lastly OISE counselling psych - website had no estimate of timeline of hearing back.

It's best to accept your offer at uWindsor while you wait to hear back from other schools! That way, if you receive rejections, you'll at least have a spot at uWindsor. If you accept the offer, and then receive an offer from a program/school that you believe has more pros than the program at uWindsor, then you can contact them and reject the previously accepted offer to accept an offer somewhere else.

Ps: congratulations on your acceptance! I'm also waiting to hear back from Carleton, fingers crossed we both get favorable news :)

Seen someone say they know someone who just received rejection from U of T 2 year program and . Wondering if anyone else has heard anything?

I assume this person likely didn’t meet the minimum qualifications in some capacity.

That assumption is not necessarily correct... there are many people who meet/exceed minimum qualifications every year who get rejected.

My application status (for Carleton 2 year program) is still in Recommended for Assessment. I was hoping that it would have changed by this point. Has anyone's status changed yet?

They don't change right as February starts (or at least it didn't last year). Last year, applicant's (including myself) received an email once all applications had been reviewed (that was closer to the end of February) and statuses only began changing a day or so after that point.

    Hi all,

I am graduating with a BA in psych in April 2024. I applied to the 2-year MSW program at UofT and I am so nervous. Feb/March needs to come around ASAP!! After speaking to people in the program and others who have applied and got accepted, waitlisted, etc I am so anxious. Some have said that UofT loves research experience which made me hopeful since I don't have as much experience as other applicants, but someone who read my personal statement said it was strong and if I do get rejected its probably due to my lack of experience. Currently acting as if I got an acceptance already and began planning around it as a form of manifestation 😭 Sending good vibes to all of you who applied this cycle!! See you all in Feb/Mar 🫡

My stats: 3.7 GPA, ~ 2500 hours in social work related experience (research, paid, and volunteer), thesis project, lots of social justice and advocacy volunteer experience and student leadership on campus

I've not applied to uToronto, but I'm also currently manifesting an acceptance to Carleton lol. Your application definitely sounds strong! I know someone who had similar experience and got accepted, so I'm manifesting an acceptance for you. Good luck, love! ❤️ :)

Just curious if anyone has heard anything or seen their application status change for Canadian MSW Applications Fall 2024?. I checked last years 2023 Canadian Application thread and saw some activity/movement in January.

WLU Application Submitted - (no changes)

The University of Manitoba- Application Submitted (no changes)

Carleton University Preliminary review required (no changes)

Here is Carleton's application status page as an example https://graduate.carleton.ca/application-status/

Your app status for Carleton likely has changed to "recommended for assessment" by now if you submitted everything you had to submit - you'll see that on Carleton Central (Carleton 360 doesn't really update the app status). My status changed in mid November before my last referee submitted their reference. Based on past experience, my app status for Carleton changed sometime in Feb 2023 and remained on "in review by department" until September/October 2023 when I was declined admission because I didn't get off the waitlist. So, I wouldn't expect a new app status change for Carleton until February, unless there are less applicants this year :)

I just got my first ever acceptance!!! I got into UBCO's Foundational MSW.

This is my 3rd cycle - first time applying to Social Work.

I am over the moon - I balled my eyes out at work this morning when I got the news.

I am waiting on a couple more schools before I officially decide but I have accepted my offer.

Congratulations on getting accepted! I just finished my application a few days ago (🥴) so hopefully I hear back soon :)

Be mindful not to mix up the acceptances going out for American schools vs. Canada school. Most Canadian programs will be notifying applicants as early as February.

UBCO is a Canadian school - University of BC Okanagan. While most programs will notify applicants in the new year, not all schools follow the same schedule :)

After lurking here for over a year I'm finally joining the MSW application club. Applying to foundational programs at Carleton, WLU, and UManitoba. Probably applying for a couple online programs in the states also as a backup plan. Good luck to everyone.

I'm applying to the foundational programs at Carleton (for the second time, I was waitlisted for fall 2023), and uManitoba as well. Good luck! :)

I will be applying to U of T, Calgary online, Wurzweiler online, and maybe York- all for the 2-year program. I just moved to Canada from the States, where getting into an MSW program is much less competitive, so I'm worried about my chances of getting into a program here- hence applying to an online American program. I'm crossing my fingers for U of T, but trying to keep my expectations low, especially since I graduated undergrad this past spring so I don't have work experience.

If you have a good amount of volunteer experience in social services then you should be fine, but if you don't have any type of experience related to social service work I'd suggest holding off on applying until you gain some of that experience. Especially since most schools in Canada require a minimum of 3500 hours of paid or volunteer social service experience at the time your application is submitted :)

  16. Hey y'all! I wanted to create this forum for anyone applying to Canadian MSW programs for fall 2024. I applied to Carleton and the part time non BSW online MSW program at Laurier for fall 2023. Got rejected from Laurier and waitlisted at Carleton. I'll be reapplying to Carleton and applying to Dalhousie and UBC-Okanagan this time around. What about you all?
