Yes! And I did not have to wait forever for what they knew early in the process.

Claiming first rejection: Emory via email ?
-
Hi there! Welcome. I don’t know anything about UC Irvine’s process. UCLA told me they don’t interview so the email we got when we applied is allegedly the info until they start rolling out decisions in February or so I think they said. i didn’t apply to those other schools: ucla Uc Irvine Berkeley stanford usc Emory brown wash u notre dame Penn

Hi I just “walked” out of my Brown interview. I posted it on the results on Sunday and forgot to update here. For me, it went very fast they stuck to 30 min. Questions were very specific to my trajectory. But overall be prepared to make a case for why brown, why the department, clear goals for future, know your research, and just show up as you. This was my first Interview. but do take care to develop your questions for them. Come with six knowing you may only be able to ask three good ones.

Yeh from what I know by way of my mentors and advisors it’s Interview (if they do them) then potentially on campus visit.
-
the one I see is PhD and International and overall I notice those move faster than US based applications.
-
Yes I see a lot of results popping up that are international students. And a sprinkle of US based applicants. I’m getting anxious.
-
Woo hoo! Good luck.
-
Please share where you interviewed, if you don’t mind?
-
Almost but in the end it didn’t make the cut. I can’t even remember why. I think I couldn’t find a good match for my research.
-
Cool! Glad to have some more folks making the shift over from Ed here. Wishing us all best of luck in finding the right home for our research ✨

ALERT just saw the first two Anthro posts on the results board for 2023! one rejection one interview
-
Ah yes! I see.
-
I feel like that’s moving in the right direction. So cool! Is McGill a top choice?
-
I got an email from USC contact. They won’t start planning their review timeline and sending out virtual Interviews until after their Jan 15 app deadline. That’s all I have.
-
I have not yet. Emory contact told me they are not at virtual Interview stage yet as of Saturday. All other emails have not been answered.

I agree with this. In 2019, I dealt with one PI discouraging me to apply because they were going on sabbatical and a colleague of theirs encouraging me to and saying they would split me between the two. It was way more of a mess than I could do Justice here. Now that I look back it was really about getting numbers to apply by one. this year, the folks that have encouraged me to apply have seemed more genuinely interested in my work and how it aligns with theirs. It feels different. But only having a nightmare to compare it to. i say take it as a good sign also!

Yeh that part! I’ve been there before. Burned by the hope of that email I put all my hopes and wishes on only to realize it was part of the recruitment game. See app Year 2019.

Good luck! My work has for a long time hovered between Education and Anthropology. After trying a round to get into social sciences and ed programs and the recommended ed programs from the AAA group on Anthro and Ed and Childhood and Youth, I decided just to go full on Anthro. I am anxious.

What I have been doing to get a definitive answer on this is contact the faculty level graduate admissions contact at each school. They give you a good idea of whether or not this is part of the process. Now, I think it should be noted that it may be the case that certain POI make it a practice to reach out on their own and I have heard this from mentors. That they may just up and call you or email. It really varies.

Been doing some follow up emails today. UCLA Anthro contact says interviews are NOT part of their process this year. So I guess continue to stand by with the initial guidance: decisions are made as early as mid February + decisions are NOT released simultaneously.
-
Forgot to add all schools I am patiently waiting on: Berkeley, Stanford, USC, UCLA, UC Irvine, Emory, Brown, Penn, WUSL, Notre Dame.
-
Yes, I think it’s very early. I scrolled through the last year’s Anthro results page and it seems mid January is when interviews start rolling out. Also, the email I received from UCLA said stated specifically: Decisions will be made as early as mid-February 2023 and are not released simultaneously. We wish you the best during this admissions cycle!

I applied to the Anthro dept. i am not sure if they interview. I plan to email the grad admissions director in Anthro to ask. Almost All of the other schools have been clear about there being an interview, sometimes standard and other times just if they have further questions. i has surgery in the middle of the early application season and never got around to sending all the emails I intended. Mostly reached faculty but want to reach out to grad students and follow up with a few admissions folks in depts.

I applied to UCLA also!
