Were you at the zoom meet and greet/tour? Did you happen to write down the current students email that was taking us around? I neglected to and I have some questions I want to ask her.

Anybody who was just in the ceramics department meet and greet, did anyone grab the grad students email who gave us the tour? i neglected to write it down and just thought of something i wanted to ask

Did anybody interview with SAIC ceramics department last year? Could you provide some insights about your experience?
-
That seems like a super biased approach? Like, wont the other attendees be a little incentivized to say negative things about each others work?
-
Does anyone know what kind of funding SAIC usually gives out?
-
Well it's not over till its over! you're probably too cool for them anyways
-
What department? Did they give you a timeline? My interviewer reached out to me informally by email, but my formal offer wont come for another couple of weeks she said. So it might still be coming your way!
-
Yes, I expect I would. I need to see the financial aid offer letter. But I'm planning on declining if I get a comparable offer somewhere else because I just felt like our energy didnt jive well.
-
It was Sunday if you can believe it. No mention of the other departments. In the interview she let me know to expect an email from her this week, but the formal acceptance letters can take weeks.
-
Accepted to RISD Ceramics this morning. Informal email promising a formal acceptance and financial aid info to follow "over the next few weeks"
-
Hello! Sorry to bother you when this post is so old, but do you happen to know if the info you gave is still accurate? Also, where is the ceramics program ranked? As in, who ranks it?

Hi! I had my interview like an hour ago. So they haven't had a chance to respond yet. I interviewed for ceramics though, so I think the timeline is probably different. She said she would get back to me with a response next week or possibly the week after. She also asked me about the FAFSA and financial aid stuff. I think they're asking everyone because of the weirdness going on with the FAFSA right now, and all the delays.

Okay so I just had my interview with RISD, and I did not think it went well at all. They only asked me three questions: Why grad school Now? Why RISD? and What do you hope to gain/get out of this? And she was a super passive, limp audience. It was over zoom so I could see her and after each question she didn't really say anything except "hmmm" and move on, no facial expressions, no acknowledgment or comment on what I said. And then when it was my turn I asked her about how much access we get to the faculty and what the critique structure was like, what the studio spaces are like and if grad students get private studios, and also about what opportunities they have for connecting with the greater are community nationally (or even globally). And she really took exception to the last question. She said that she wasn't just going to "call up a gallery in LA and tell them they needed to show my work. And that gallery placement schools (whatever that is?) don't exist anymore and they're not good for the program and they tear students apart" It was super weird and I didn't feel like she wanted to be there at all.

Still nothing from UW Seattle and its killing meeeeeee. Has anybody else applied to the sculpture/3D4M program ? Are they just running late? Or should I assume rejection?
-
What school is Gw?
-
I've heard nothing from UW 3D4M

My interviews with SAIC and RISD are next week, but I had my Boulder interview earlier today. It was a phone conversation with the three ceramics faculty all together. I think it went really well and I really enjoyed speaking with them. It was pretty brief and casual. They asked me: What are your goals for grad school? Why Boulder specifically? What are you reading? What are you good at? and of course: What questions do you have for us?
-
Just got an interview invite from RISD this morning. Here's where I stand: UC Davis-- nothing, assuming rejected CU Boulder-- interview UW Seattle -- nothing, still holding out hope 😅 SAIC -- interview RISD -- interview For all of these I applied for ceramics

There's some oddballs, but most places ask approximately the same questions. I just did a mock interview with one of my recommenders and we discussed it at length. Here's what I would recommend preparing for: Elevator pitch, Sum up your practice in one sentence. What do you hope to get out of grad school/why are you going to grad school? Why this school specifically? What can you get from our school that you cant do/find on your own? What are some of your influences/contemporary artists you draw inspiration from? What are you reading/a little about the theoretical basis of your work? Tell us about a piece from your portfolio that you feel is particularly successful? Not every school will ask you all these questions, but it's good to have answers prepared because you'll probably encounter some of them at each school. Keep it brief and professional, but honest and true to yourself. They're looking for someone they can get along with. These reviewers are gonna be working closely with you for a long time, so they want to know that you're thinking deeply about this decision and that you're someone they can get along with.

Probably more sculptural in my own work, but I also teach so I throw a lot of functional stuff to because that's what people are interested in learning

You mentioned you were a finalist for UO though, have they gotten back to you? I went there for undergrad 😁
-
Hey! I got a boulder interview invite today.
-
Recieved a boulder interview invite today. Very informal email requesting a "short phone conversation" from the ceramics area head. Anybody here interview with boulder in the past? Any tips or any unusual questions you encountered? Anyone familiar with the ceramics head?
-
Alrighty, thanks for the response. Hopefully this will make the eventual rejection email sting less 😅
