  1. Based on the above-mentioned description it seems like you were among their competitive applicants. Please don’t be too hard on yourself for not getting accepted, based on these statistics it seems like they have 5% acceptance rate and have to reject a lot of highly qualified applicants. It is not on you.
  2. That’s so interesting, because I haven’t heard of this program before, but I went online to do some digging and found an interesting justification for why they created this graduate certificate. ”Since inception of the MPH in 2015 at McMaster we have steadily received an increasing number of applications that far exceeded our enrolment capacity. From 2016-2020 there have been hundreds of applications per year for 35 seats. Most of whom met the competitive requirements. Amidst the pandemic, for the 2021-2022 academic year, the MPH received over 600 applications for 35 seats. Thus, there is clearly demand from students for public health training that we are not currently able to fulfill. The GDCPH may appeal to a subgroup of these applicants due to its practice-oriented nature and its flexibility. For the 2021-2022 academic year, the GDCE has invited all qualified MPH applicants with a B+ average or above with complete applications (n=219), and 10 of them received the GDCE offer. » So basically it is a shorter, more practical certificate they offer to people to close the gap between offer and demand fir public health training. I found it interesting. Definitely sounds like a good option.
  3. Congrats! Are you from Alberta yourself? What’s your background? Will see you in August!
  4. It’s just my assumption, but I think less because MSc degree has stricter requirements to apply in terms of what previous degree you should have. And you can apply into MPH even with an arts degree, so more people can apply.
  5. Yes. So I already go to UofA and I decided to drop in and talk with an advisor last week. They said they had a couple hundred more applicants than even last year. So this year it has the same acceptance rate as UofA medical school at less than 10%. So we all should be happy we got in. It should be an interesting cohort.
  6. Yes! I went to the faculty today to ask questions (I already go to UofA). And this year there were close to 700 applicants, more than last year for whatever reason. Maybe people get more interested in public health?
  7. Also, I was wrong about the fact they accept everyone. I am talking to a faculty member/prof in the program and this year they had more applications than last year, hundreds of applicants, it was highly competitive. I guess those who don’t get in just don’t post, so it doesn’t seem competitive, but it is.
  8. Yey! Congrats. So far it looks like we will have an interesting cohort. I saw that we have an MDs and a dentist in our MPH group. We should have great time bouncing ideas from each other Can’t wait to meet you all!
  9. Yeah I actually don’t know anyone who got a rejection. I think they just let in anyone who applied. But that’s good for me, it’s a great program, everyone I know graduating from it got a high paying job with the government within a few months. I am so happy I got in.
  10. Yeah! I am in communication with one of the faculty members and she said they are still selecting people and slowly rolling out acceptances, so I think people should still expect them in March. Thank you so much! I am very happy. I haven’t decided if I will accept it as I am also waiting on decision from the nursing after degree program. I want to choose after I find out if I am accepted into the nursing one. Making a career change as my previous degree is not health related at all, but I have discovered a passion for healthcare a couple of years ago.
  11. Hi everyone! I have just received my acceptance into MPH at UofA. It is the only program I applied to as I can’t leave Edmonton for now due to work and family. I honestly did not expect an admission because I don’t have a stellar GPA (3.4 ish) or amazing work experience, was very surprised to receive my acceptance email a few hours ago!
