Any word on UNC at Chapel Hill?

I think there are too many of us who haven't heard for it to mean waitlist -

The Bison Grass vodka is incredible with apple juice. It tastes like apple pie, but not sickly sweet like an appletini. -
I didn't apply, but Santa Cruz is my hometown so anyone who got in and has any questions about living there is welcome to PM me!

I've been buying myself these shirts the past couple weeks as a way to make myself feel better about rejections. I'm up to 3 (but more rejections than that--I had to draw the line somewhere ). They sent out a nice coupon last week (unfortunately it's now expired or I'd share it).

One of the beauties of LA housing is all of the bachelor and studio apartments that were built at the behest of the movie studios in the '30s and '40s to house single actors--I lived in LA for 9 years, and know plenty of people who were paying under $600/month for a bachelor apt on their own. Not in Westwood of course, but totally within commuting distance! (Even via the dreaded LA bus system)

This sentence makes me happy and sad at the same time. Happy, because it's kind of an awesome sentence. Sad, because it kind of sums things up for me. -
UCL Anyone??
noxrosa replied to CulturedExperience's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
I know this isn't an option for everyone (I live in London which makes it more viable), but for those of you, like me, think you're probably going to be rejected from all the PhD programs you applied to this year, the UCL taught masters has a deadline of March 1st! There's still time to add one more school to your application list -
Ways to Combat the Crazy

Even my email account thinks I'm checking my email too much: my Gmail account totally just stopped working for half an hour. -
Congratulations! Your post made me check my status, but alas nothing updated on mine...

Ways to Combat the Crazy

All I can say about this is that today the waiting is killing me. I keep having dreams where all 14 places I applied reject me simultaneously, which would be preferable to this whole damn not knowing. I'm a planner--I'm ready to figure out the next 5 years please!!! -

I applied to Lit and got that same email, but I think there are other Lit people who didn't. I have a feeling that who got/didn't get the email doesn't mean anything -

FAFSA and Ph.D. Programs?
noxrosa replied to DisneyLeith's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
You can file a tax return even if you didn't make any money, and then use that for your FAFSA--perhaps the IRS will even owe you stimulus money if you're not a student or a dependent! (and as for the India factor, if you're a US citizen, legally you have to file a US tax return no matter where you live. Which I find frustrating. Paying taxes to one government is enough for me!) -
FAFSA and Ph.D. Programs?

I don't know if it's one of the places you applied, but Berkeley does: http://grad.berkeley.edu/financial/deadlines.shtml (Since I know I need to do it for them, provided I haven't been rejected by March 2nd, I've been too lazy to check anyone else's requirements) -
FAFSA and Ph.D. Programs?
noxrosa replied to DisneyLeith's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
Ah, but it means filing my US tax return 6 weeks before it's actually due, which is a lot more trouble than it might overwise be as I live and work in a country with a tax year that doesn't end until April. I'd prefer to confront the international tax kerfluffle once I know schools have accepted me (and I'm sure I'm not alone in this boat!). -
FAFSA and Ph.D. Programs?

The California deadline is March 2nd, which may be before we hear from all the California schools. This really annoys me! All that FAFSA work only to be rejected from schools would be like rubbing salt in the wound. -
Duke application status emails
noxrosa replied to noxrosa's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
That would be nice, but it's definitely not an option they're giving! -
What a stupid thing to stress me out, but is anyone else getting multiple emails from the Duke Graduate School listing off which items they've received? The first time it seemed normal, but I'm up to 4 identical emails from them, so it's starting to make me think there's something wrong with my application (rather than thinking there's something wrong with their email system, which is probably a more reasonable assumption) so I'm hoping one of you can say this is happening to you too and their system is to blame.... It seems like a stupid thing to contact the school about, so I'm crowd sourcing to make myself feel better

This is how I feel too--I'm afraid at this point that if I find out my score, it's going to freak me out so much I won't do my best on my SoP and Writing Sample, so I'm waiting until they put it online and then I'm constitutionally incapable of not checking it (I think the 19th is the day they claim to post them online). At least I haven't had any GRE score dreams for a couple weeks--last night I just dreamt about someone calling me up to tell me there was something ethically wrong with my SoP. Ah, dream logic.

I had the same test as you, and you've perfectly summarized my feelings on it (those essay identifications killed me). But putting a question about who James Brown is as the last question on the test kind of made me love ETS for a moment (until I remembered they'd CHANGED THE TESTING CENTER LOCATION WITHOUT TELLING ME).
