  1. I completely agree: I would have thought the same. Your feelings are entirely valid, and I’m so sorry they put you through this pain.
  2. I'm now officially committed to Minnesota! I'm happy with this outcome: there are some amazing faculty in my area, the teaching load is perfect, and their program seems to be going in good directions in the face of the near-nonexistent job market. I can't believe I'm finished with the months of waiting. Good luck to those of you still in suspense for the next handful of days, and the best of luck to those who will be going through this hell again next round. Thank you all for your camaraderie!! ... including the ghosts of threads from years past, which I heavily relied on for insight and moral support!
  3. yikes. But who needs 'em: Huzzah to being accepted for the funded MA!! You deserve at least that, and I'd bet you'll do wonderfully well in the program.
  4. Ah, department websites. That's frustrating, sorry! Indiana just informed me that they're pretty sure they won't have a spot for me, so I'm now just waiting on UNC... 🤞
  5. I'm so sorry about Concordia and the season overall. It sounds like you're extremely qualified and they're missing out on a fantastic candidate. Illinois better come through for you! There's still a chance! I just received word that there's a spot for me at UMN 😶 and it's such a relief/shock. I have been very impressed with the school, and I enjoyed the visit day... I think I'm still waiting for final news from the other two schools I'm waitlisted at, but Minnesota might be the one for me. (Crazy. I almost didn't apply because of the weather!) Hoping for good waitlist movement for all ❤️
  6. That is very encouraging from Northeastern! Not nearly as nice as a funded offer, of course. Did they give you a timeline for when they'd have more concrete information about funding?
  7. I get that. While there's not much to lose by waiting longer, it could be worth just calling it for those reasons. OTOH, I wouldn't commit too early unless I were 100% sure about my choice. I'm already worrying about the decision that I might get to make (while simultaneously fretting over my chances of getting off any waitlist). UNC and Minnesota have been incredibly warm and welcoming by inviting me to their visit days, reaching out, etc. Indiana has been very quiet, especially in comparison to the other two. I loved their program, but my heart is being stolen by all of the sweet courting of the other departments.
  8. Congratulations! In my intensive waitlist research 🙂 I've noticed that CUNY English tends to accept many students from their waitlist, so I hope you see some good luck there too!
  9. In the words of @FreakyFoucault, you’ve been shellacked 🌟
  10. Congrats!! That's a very nice and personal way to hear about a waitlist, too. Huzzah! Congratulations to you as well, and may we all see some positive waitlist movement so we can find our best fit.
  11. There's a great thread from a few years ago that I've been using for reference: https://forum.thegradcafe.com/topic/115781-so-youve-been-waitlisted-now-what/ I haven't sent any letters of continued interest yet, but I am going to go to UNC's open house and I'm considering asking Minnesota and Indiana if I can visit sometime during my spring break week—except that it isn't until the first week of April, and oof plane tickets are very expensive.
  12. That’s torturous. I’m so sorry. Your season started so well with the acceptances to the master’s programs, too. Are you planning on going to one of them if you get shutout by the phd programs?
  13. YES!! Enormous congratulations!!! That's a huge acceptance, especially since you already know it's a great fit from the visit. I got my first acceptance, to Utah (hey @sheherazade11, once again!), and it Is a huge relief. I'll still be waiting anxiously for the waitlist results and news from other schools, but I'll definitely be going somewhere in the fall!!!
  14. I just got my third waitlist decision this morning: I don't even know what to think anymore. I guess my application screams "great, but not great enough"! At least I'm slowly growing a bit of hope, as the probability of getting at least one acceptance increases bit by bit.
