Totally feel this! Like I know there's no reason to feel defeated yet (or ever), especially since I do have a very promising waitlist from OSU, but that feels like so long ago. Hard not to feel insecure that's it's the only good news I'll get the whole season. Anxiously awaiting an official acceptance ASAP Also, are we sure the NYU acceptance is legit? I saw that in Draft too but this seems wayyy too early for NYU. A bit skeptical tbh

All I know is Ohio State's waitlist (which I'm on) is allegedly only 3 people. A current student on Draft told me this and assured me pretty much everyone gets in off it eventually. I'm not sure if that's typical of other top programs though

I actually have some intel on UNCG. A couple weeks ago I happened to be in the Greensboro area for work, so I replied to the director's update email from earlier that week to ask about meeting. They said yes and ended up showing me around the English dept and even introduced me to several faculty and students. They were all super friendly and welcoming! Right before I left, the director mentioned that they like to talk with/interview applicants (not sure if it's everyone or only some) and that since I physically came in they could check me off that list. Sounded like they'd be reaching out to set up those calls soon. Given that there was no personal statement portion of their application, I'm guessing this is their main way of getting to know the prospective students. As far as timeline goes, he kept reiterating that their decision process is pretty slow and that we probably won't be hearing back until at least March.

Ugh I'm in the same gently bobbing, seemingly anchored-forever boat as you. Happy to have gotten waitlisted at Ohio State (and hopeful for what this bodes for my other apps!) but at the same time unable to relax until I get at least one acceptance. Plus I think UW Madison and Vanderbilt will be notifying next week and those are two of my top choices so...feeling super impatient!

That's so interesting--I guess I'm not the only one then. Sounds like it's North Carolina's best kept secret lol It just so happens that I'm gonna be in Charlotte this week for a conference, so I'm planning to stop by Greensboro and maybe try to schedule a tour of UNCG while I'm there. Hopefully I'll like what I see!

Also, is it just me, or does UNCG's program seem bizarrely not talked about given its ranking (not to mention it being the second oldest MFA after Iowa)? No one on Draft has mentioned it, and according to last year's spreadsheet it looks like only one person applied last cycle. From what I can tell it looks like a really solid fully funded program, plus they have a very active FB page posting about readings/events almost every week.... I guess I'm just confused why no one has much to say about it anecdotally. Would love to hear more about the program if anyone has additional details!

I also just got that email today for fiction! Gave me a heart attack bc I thought it was an actual decision at first 🙃 but I guess it's nice of them to keep us in the loop along the way

Just got waitlisted at Ohio State this morning for fiction, so I'm guessing that fiction rejections (along with poetry and CNF acceptances) will be coming up in the next few days!
