    A USC acceptance?! ;o Was that any of you? I saw they listed it as English Lit and Creative Writing, which is (I think) a different program than the normal English one, but now I’m deeply curious about their topic either way…

    Ugh, I’ve been up sick to my stomach all night and what do I get but an e-mail update to my portal from U Maryland. At least that one was at the bottom of my list…

    Found out I applied after the merit financial aid deadline for UNC on accident :,). Really pulling for my doctoral programs now bc I’m scared of debt.

    It’s absolutely rough out here. I got all rejections for my first cycle and worked a a LOT on my writing sample/SOP/finding a good fit this round, and have only heard back from one doctoral program (same rejection we commiserated about before). Keep your head up!

    Sorry to hear about the rejections coming in! I am assuming a quiet rejection from Penn and Northeastern right now based on not getting interview invites. It’s rough out here.

    Was the interview for USC for anyone on here? I was surprised to see it, because nobody’s ever posted about getting interviewed there in the past on here.

    I feel that! Also kinda bummed ab Maryland/Northeastern (even tho app status says they haven’t been reviewed…idk). Silent rejections almost hurt worse, they feel like a huge blow to your confidence even though it’s technically not a rejection. Good luck on your interview!

    Seconding that! It looks like they usually come out over the course of a few days— my application status still says “awaiting review” so assuming they haven’t gotten to everyone yet.

    Happy to see someone else here— I’m also geared towards the academic librarian track! I applied to 16 altogether, including MLS and doctoral programs, so that’s far from overboard in my book, lol. I think UNC-CH is the only overlap we have. It’s also relatively close to me (the closest school I applied to besides my undergrad institution), so it would really be ideal in all aspects if it wasn’t for the cost… I felt similarly about my chances for the CALA program— I have a bunch of research experience, but my only job experience in a library was in a writing center. Their website says announcements come out in February and mid-March, but the application deadline isn’t until March 15th, so it’s hard to gauge when we’d know for sure if they are considering us for it.     Also assuming a quiet rejection from Penn. As for Maryland, that’s the other one for me that I think is coming this week! That, and Northeastern interview invites seem to come out around this time. We’ll see….good luck!

    Hey! I don’t remember exactly what I indicated on the application, but more generally it’s media studies/queer theory/critical theory. I saw some rejections and an acceptance come out, so maybe they’re still in the process of reviewing, or maybe it’s a waitlist? Either way, hoping you have better luck than I did!

    Hello! This section of gradcafe always seems so quiet, but I thought it might be worthwhile to send a post into the void and see if anyone else is applying for library science programs! I split my applications between these and a few doctoral programs for English, and while there was a forum for those I saw there wasn’t one here. I only applied to four, and have heard back from UNC-Chapel Hill and SUNY Albany (both acceptances!) and am waiting to hear back from UCLA and ECU. I’d love to go to UNC, of course, but that would definitely be dependent on possible funding. Otherwise, I’d probably have to pick based on cost (which sucks, because it’s definitely my top pick out of the masters programs I applied to otherwise). Anyone else dealing with similar things? How is everybody doing? I hope the cycle is going well for everyone!

    That’s awesome— I feel like I never meet anybody else in our area of focus! But yes, me too (for all of us!), and I’m crossing my fingers. I applied to UWM, UPenn (no interview, so maybe a quiet rejection?), Columbia, USC, Syracuse, Northeastern, Boston U, UCI, UCSB, and UCo Boulder for doctoral programs. UWM is the only program I’ve heard back from so far. The two acceptances I have are for masters programs that were my designated back-ups (which I’m suddenly much more grateful for, even if I’m just being cynical after only one rejection). How has this cycle been to you so far? Where did you apply?

    Same boat. I didn’t think it was the BEST fit for me and knew it was a reach but it still feels bad…it’s hard not to take the least charitable interpretation of that to heart…This is the one reason I always tell myself I won’t check gradcafe.

    Congrats!! I was just checking here after seeing the notifications from Emory and Notre Dame and am happy to see someone here got through. I also DID end up making a spreadsheet…it seems like the earliest I could hear back would be next week. Of course, it doesn’t stop me from logging on here.

    My acceptance is for a masters program, not a doctoral one! I’m also not expecting news for at least another week or two, but that doesn’t stop me from checking here. I love the spreadsheet idea, though…

    Obsessively checking my email and this website, mostly. If it wasn't so busy at my job I think I'd be going crazy. I also applied to A LOT of schools because I'm desperate to get out of said job, lol. At the very least, it doesn't look like ANYONE has posted any English doctoral program updates, so we'll see in the coming weeks....
