  1. To the people who are accepted to the University of Illinois for IR, please please let them know if you accept or deny as soon as you feel able. I am the only one left now on the IR waitlist and U of I is my number one pick. Being the only one left is terrifying. I'm so close yet so far 😭
  2. Just got notified I'm waitlisted at WashU! Hoping the waitlist moves!
  3. To the people that posted their WashU rejections yesterday: what were y'all's subfields?
  4. So does this mean that they are still waiting for people to accept or deny their places in the program?
  5. Please lmk what they say! I am also waiting to hear from them (and expecting rejection).
  6. Has anyone heard anything from Michigan State?
  7. I saw one post about a Michigan State acceptance last week, around the 5th. They didn't mention subfield. I applied there for IR and also haven't heard anything.
  8. I applied to Purdue, but haven't heard anything from them.
  9. I'm sure you'll get in there as well!
  10. While rejection via personal email from program director is kind, I am over here refreshing my email wondering at what point are they stopping sending them and if they are going to continue tomorrow 😂
  11. Mine is also "awaiting decision". Maybe we are on the wait-list? Or our rejections just haven't come in yet 😂. But I do know from past forums that UIUC admits heavily off of their wait-list. So hoping that is us!
  12. I'm so nervous. I feel like everything is just going to happen at once and it will be super overwhelming lol
  13. No problem! There was a lot of people who talked about Ohio State's funding being weird in last year's forum on here. So you might get more info if you look there!
  14. I'm glad they're following a different process. The way they did it last year seemed way too dramatic 😂
  15. I agree. I was reading the thread from last year and it had a lot better vibes than this one. Communicating online can be tricky. It is easier to hide behind a screen and be rude, but it is also easier to misread tone and intention when reading messages. Let's all just try to have patience with each other and not subject others to our personal stresses and anxieties. We are all going through a similar situation.
  16. There have been absolutely no other updates about OSU on here other than yours Edit: also, OSU funding isn't decided by the department so funding offers don't come until later. The Grad School decides funding.
  17. Also has literally anyone else heard from Ohio State other than that one person yesterday? Or have the trolls infiltrated the forum?
  18. I was just about to post about this. I'm glad you haven't heard anything either, keeps my hopes up that it just didn't get done. It is one of my top choices 🙃
  19. My favorite part of that claim post was the (not a troll) part lol
  20. I was shocked at Wisconsin's portal. Ohio States' application portal wasn't great but the buckeye link is much better
  21. I have a friend who is a PhD student at SIUC and they are completely funded for PhD students. They do not accept students who they can't completely fund. Masters students are not guaranteed funding, but that is not unusual. But yes, the faculty is small and highly specialized which can be a downside. I would not classify SIUC as a sketchy program where you won't get a job. They are an R2 that offers the typical career prospects of an R2 program.
  22. It is important to know your career expectations. There are limited spots in R1, but it is very very very rare to get a job in R1 or R2 if you're getting your PhD at an R2. But if your career goals aren't centered completely around working in R1 academia, then schools like Carbondale may be a good fit. They do fund all their students, and primarily place at teaching colleges and government positions like I said in my post above. You just need to be realistic about your expectations. SIU Carbondale is not a cash grab like some schools, but it isn't going to get you an amazing job at a top research university.
