Congratulations!

Is it an admission faux pas to contact the department chair at a university and inquire if a final decision has been made on an application before receiving a decision email? I don’t want to do it if it’s unadvisable or will negatively impact my chances, but the waiting is making me anxious haha.

I also just got a rejection email from UCSD. I’m not too upset about it. I got into Rice, so I have an option secured at this point. I’m staying hopeful for my remaining decisions.

Do you mean either a waitlist or rejection?

Mine also shows no checklist now. What does there not being a checklist mean?

I just got an offer of admission from Rice University!!!!

There are people (especially in CP and IR sub fields) who have reported getting admitted to Vanderbilt in past years without an interview. the interviews reported for this cycle for Vanderbilt are very sparse so far. A lot fewer interviews reported than in past years. Only 3 reported total (I am 1 of them, American subfield).

I feel like Rice decisions should be dropping one day this week.

I haven’t heard anything from UCSD, so I’m just assuming a waitlist. They seem to have released many acceptances and rejections, so having heard nothing makes me assume waitlist

I’m really hoping for an acceptance from Vanderbilt. I think my interview went quite well, and the initial email from my POI made it sound like the admissions committee was very interested in my application

hmm that’s interesting! I just hadn’t seen Rice do interviews in past cycles on grad cafe, so I didn’t think they did them.

This is my first PhD application cycle, so I wanted to ask this question. If you get accepted to a program, do you typically get: 1) an email from the graduate program that very clearly and directly tells you you’re accepted OR 2) or an email that merely says that an update is posted in your application portal, where it then tells you that you’re accepted? I’m just curious what kind of email to be expecting!

Me!! I just about lost it

I’m hoping to hear back from Rice sometime this week! Someone said they got an interview invite from rice, but I’m pretty sure Rice doesn’t interview. I got an interview invite from Vanderbilt last Wednesday and Vandy seems to release some acceptances about ~2 weeks after interviews. Hopeful for good news in near future.

Does anyone have any knowledge of when UNC and Rice tend to release their decisions?

I really hope I’m not waitlisted. It’s a better outcome than a denial, but I’m obviously hoping for an acceptance.

Does being interviewed mean I’m on the shortlist or am I highly considered candidate? I’m just very curious how likely I am to be admitted after being interviewed
