  1. Personally I would probably just leave it, but I don't think there's any harm in asking if you'd be able to submit an updated version.
  2. Omg thank you for laying this all out, my brain can't math so I've been mostly saving the stipend/financial considerations for later but this is SO helpful to see. Damn yeah, 2/2 for all 4 years is a little wild imo. I think I'd probs be okay with a 2/2 load as long as the stipend reflected that but you're right, this seems kinda unsustainable, at least for me at this point in my life.
  3. Anybody applying to Arkansas? I just found out they have a free first round so I said what the heck and sent it in. They're a fully funded four year program which is kinda wild to me, but maybe cool? Can't decide. Curious if anybody has thoughts on the program!
  4. SO deeply second this lol.
  5. Haven't heard anything either! I'm pretty sure last year UTK's round 1 notifs dropped on 12/16 so we're not too far off schedule.
  6. Feels weird to say this so early in the cycle but -- just got my first acceptance! In for fiction at University College Cork in Ireland. It's one of only three non-funded programs I applied to, kinda on a whim, and to be honest there's pretty much no chance of me financially actually being able to go. But still, feels like a nice way to kick things off.
  7. Is anybody applying to the cross disciplinary track at Brown? It seems so cool but I haven't really seen anybody talk about it this year or last.
  8. Also kind of everywhere lol. Wyoming, Brown, Cornell, UTK, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Indiana Bloomington, NAU, Oregon, Oregon State, Minnesota Minneapolis, Michigan, Iowa, Ohio State, Rutgers Camden, and then for SOME SILLY REASON I also applied to University College Cork and Trinity College Dublin in Ireland despite being broke and there being pretty much zero hope of funding.
  9. Hi, welcome! Never too early to begin The Panicking lol. Where are you applying?
  10. I find this really annoying too. I'd get it if the questions were all distinct but they just seem like variations of the same thing to me.
  11. Just curious, is anybody looking at any non-US schools?
  12. I've been in fanfic mode too LOL. I feel like it's much needed particularly this time of year (app szn). Otherwise just finished Madwoman by Chelsea Bieker (liked 90% of it, hated the end) and this YA fantasy bop Legendborn by Tracy Deonn (loved).
  13. CONGRATS!!!! Get yourself a treat! Almost there with ya, just have to do the financial questionnaire thingy for Iowa and it'll be a wrap.
  14. Welcome to the forum! Your guess is as good as mine for most of this, but I can speak a bit to the screenwriting of it all. I did an MFA in screenwriting and am now looking to transition out of the entertainment industry which is why I've decided to try for an MFA in fiction. I would say that unless you're knowledgeable about film & TV production and are very confident you want to be in that world, a degree in screenwriting may not be the best idea. Most of the "top" screenwriting programs (including mine lol) aren't funded, and while I definitely learned a lot I don't really know if I would do it again tbh. Definitely don't want to discourage you if that's what you're interested in of course! But it's a very specific and difficult industry, especially now, post-strike and post-pandemic.
  15. Seconding this! Fee waivers are a HUGE help and in my experience they're not super difficult to get if you actually need them. I think 11 of the 17 places I applied waived my app fee and all I had to do for most of them was upload a bank statement or something similar showing that I'm poor lol
  16. This is super helpful, thanks!!!
  17. Does anybody have a list of NON fully funded programs that DO offer full funding? (that sentence makes my head hurt lol). I know there are schools that aren't considered fully funded bc they don't offer full funding to everybody, but do offer it to some. Curious if anybody has a list to that effect. I'm bored and unemployed and thinking of adding a few to my list for shits and giggles.
  18. @Hjanep I feel you, I'm also feeling weirdly chill about the whole thing at this point. This time last year I was already checking gradcafe 50 times a day lol. This round I've applied to: Wyoming, Brown, Cornell, UTK, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Indiana, NAU, U of Oregon, & Minnesota. Still working on apps for: Iowa, Montana, Rutgers-Camden, Michigan, & Ohio State. So far I got fee waivers for all except Wyoming, Syracuse, Minnesota, and NAU. NAU is the only non-fully funded program I'm applying to, and only because I really love Flagstaff and I've heard they sometimes do offer full funding. Open to tweaking or adding to the list if anybody has input!
  19. Just a little over a month til most apps open up - we are SO back y'all 😎 I'm actually excited to do this again!
  20. Same LOL - maybe there’s still hope for 2024 😂
  21. Congrats to everyone hearing from their waitlists! Has anyone gotten their university of Oregon rejection yet??
  22. It'll probably show up randomly a few months from now when I'm having a bad day hahaha
  23. Thanks! I had been locked out of my Iowa portal but I just got it reset and yeah, they did update it. Kind of a bummer to me to spend so much money/time on these applications and not even get a formal rejection email. I get it, but also 😕
  24. I still haven’t heard anything from Iowa or University of Oregon (fiction). :/
  25. Is anyone still waiting for their fiction rejection from Iowa?
