I've been procrastinating making my final decisions but now that I am starting to send out email responses, I will give my final update: California College of the Arts: Accepted with full tuition, accepting their offer. UT Austin: Accepted with full tuition remission + 21k yearly stipend. Tyler: full tuition remission + 26k yearly stipend. RISD: Accepted with 50% scholarship Cranbrook: Accepted with no funding. Boston University: accepted with 40% scholarship. VCU: Waitlisted. Saic: Rejected after interview. Hunter: Rejected. Rutgers: Rejected

Anyone know anything about CCA Studio Arts program? They're my best offer by far and I think that will be my final choice but I just wanted to gather other opinions since I will most likely not be able to visit...

Got into Cranbrook painting! I am only missing to hear back from BU Painting. Does anyone know about their timeline?

Just got waitlisted from VCU

I feel like I read it in the fine print on one of my letters. I'm not sure if that means you can't ask for an increase more, that there won't be opportunities along the way to increase once you are in the program.

I got about 40% fellowship and 5k assistantship from painting and I'm at the same spot as xxxmfa. RISD's deal is just not enough for me to go. Sadly, because it was my #1. Also I noted how in the letter it mentioned that there won't be opportunities to increase merit scholarships so what you get is what you get but please let us know if you renegotiate.

RISD posted their official letter in the portal and didn't write by email so I would check directly by opening the application.

I was told (painting) that we would get the official letters with financial info today but it is already kinda late in the day so idk. They already let me know what my fellowship amounts to but because of how expensive RISD is, it is nowhere near enough. Especially considering I've been getting better offers from other schools but, still, hoping that miraculously the official letter says something different lol. Has anyone heard back from VCU, Boston University, or Cranbrook in painting?

Hey! I am also a first time applicant straight out of undergrad so, we are in a somewhat similar place. Yet, I am an international student that for many reasons pertaining to visa status, etc can not really take the time to apply several consecutive years. Nonetheless, I graduated last May and have been working low to no income jobs and doing my art on the side since then. Although hard and tiring, I believe it has taught me many things about me as a person and pushed me to grow as an artist even though I have only done it for a small period of time. At the same time, I have seen people in the field that have been able to promote their career exponentially more than how they would be able to during grad school by having the freedom of forming genuine connections outside of an institutional background. I unfortunately feel like, by going straight out of undergrad I am committing to having a certain disadvantage and immaturity in my expertise where, in a way, I envy having the opportunity to take your time and experience a self-motivated practice. That being said, I cannot speak for SAIC as a program but, I can only say that if you wished you had more options to choose from or are doubtful as to if you will regret or just wonder in the future if choosing SAIC was the right choice for you because it was your only choice, I would wait and reapply in the future. I think that it is better to have patience, maybe apply to more programs, and to not take on huge amounts of debt for a graduate education. I would also not frown upon working outside of the arts to sustain your creative practice as a necessity as many successful artists have had to do that at a point or another and is somewhat inevitable in today's economy.

Just finished my interview with painting at SAIC and that was a horrible way of conducting an interview bordering with disrespectful. Not to sound egotistical but I know I did well but the people interviewing just seemed bored and uninterested. I understand that they cram interviews in one day but, if the faculty are gonna burn out before noon and not engage with the applicant, they should divide interviews throughout several days. I felt like they didn't like my work which I understand and I'm fine with but they weren't even interested in trying to understand it so now I'm just puzzled as to why I was invited to interview in the first place. Halfway through, the interview morphed into a critique of my work with no room for me to expand on their comments which were not even coming from a place of interest but were opinions on how they assess art. If this is a reflection on how SAIC is structured by faculty not invested at all in their students, even if I got a full ride I would not consider it for a second.

Just to make sure, it is not a Zoom meeting but a "video stream" channel...?

I interviewed with VCU painting/printmaking last week but haven't heard anything else. They mentioned decisions would take 2-3 weeks.

Omg ok I'm glad they asked you too and it was not a personal interaction with me. Maybe mine just felt off because of the time constraints.
