Hi all, I've resisted posting on the forums until now, but I really need to vent my frustrations! This is my second attempt at applying to grad school for PhDs, I'm a British student applying to US and Canadian universities. Masters GPA 3.92 from a good university, 320 overall on the GRE (my verbal and writing scores are significantly higher than my quant, but I have mitigating specific learning difficulties), and tonnes of work experience in education and with disabled people (my area of interest is neurodiversity, social justice, and philosophy). Last year I was rejected after interview from Boston University, and rejected outright from Harvard and NYU. TC offered me a place on the MEd, but only £8k of funding (I should point out, I am not well off).
This year I thought I'd done everything right. I got in contact with academics early, I had some amazingly positive and interesting conversations, and I wrote what other people told me were really good applications. It has, again, not gone well.
Syracuse - SpEd: Had the most positive conversations with this school, only to find out after applying they're not taking new grad students this year.
UW-Madison - SpEd: Rejected after 20 minute interview.
UIC - Disability Studies: Rejected
Toronto - Social Justice Education: Not formally rejected, but I have evidence all offers have gone out.
UGA - Educational Theory and Practice - It's said "Awaiting Decision" since January with no other communication, so...
It's just so frustrating because I am in my early 30s, so I really don't have forever to keep applying. Guess I should accept it will probably never happen?
