  1. just spoke with Roger Herman at UCLA, accepted! can't wait to hear from some other schools. LA is sounding pretty wonderful.
  2. Initially when i joined this little forum I had thought, sure. What a great way to connect with other people applying to the same programs I am, this will give me a better understanding of when and how the decisions are made. Now I think to myself "why on earth would i put myself through this?" It's hard enough isn't it? Either way, i really feel more connected with other artists, through the rejection and the acceptance process. It's like an open crit, but no one shows their work . . . which feels a bit odd to me. And in my opinion, isn't it good to know that prospective faculty would be checking this out? If your confident in what you do, show it! Call it whatever you want, the more exposure the more response, the more interaction. That's what these things are for right?
  3. hey kashkool, you found out yesterday? did they call? I had tried connecting with the faculty that left me a message the other night but haven't heard anything back. its a small program and it sounds like they've made their decisions, any painting admits out there for ucla? ugh, in my top two schools... congrats to you!
  4. did you have an on-campus interview or something over the phone? tried contacting the faculty member that left a message last night. alas, no reply today. that is the only thing i've heard, never really did an interview.
  5. applied to painting and drawing. I had not called back last night, decided to try early this morning. Oh goodness i hope they try me again.
  6. Thank goodness, a call from UCLA today as one of their finalists. that was LEAST expected. so full of excitement and nervousness. The first thing on my mind . . . maybe i can get back to work now!
  7. i'm in the same spot, emailed their admissions office and recieved a reply today, i had check mySAIC page and noticed that a second letter of recommendation appeared missing, but the reassured me that they have recieved it. their site is experiencing a few problems from what i understand. woonayoung, your in PA? My assumption is that, with a college recieving so many applicaitons, they would most likely be conducting interviews in rounds. SAIC is (and is competing with)one of the top grad programs in the country. As far as bringing in the caliber of students they aim for, i would think that the sooner they can interview the better in this scenario. then again, this would be a different process than i'm used to as i work at an art school that offers only undergrad programs. it's getting hard to sit on your hands and wait it out, from what i can tell people had been notified of rejection into march of last year. best of luck!
  8. jesus i hate living so far away from the school's i've applied to. really . . . Seattle!? last to hear from Columbia and SAIC while I'm watching everyone getting their interviews. Sunday sucks without a doubt. Had to check out 5 good artist books from the library to get me back into the painting spirit. Finally, while working on trees . . . you can't paint a tree. If it got a letter for an interview today . . . I'm going to paint the hell outta' these trees! WTF? I guess it's the same thing for me and deadlines though, I suppose. Really get down to business when it's crunch time. Best of luck to everyone this week, I'll be checking in. . . too often I'm sure. And congrats on your SAIC interviews!
  9. Syracuse sounds nice, never looked into it! The things you find after deadlines pass right? Sorry to hear of your rejection from Yale, I'm in the same boat, notified via my application page last friday. best of luck to you!

  10. Laura I really love your portraits, you've been busy this year. Wish I could pull up my '11 stuff but I'm having a hard time finding a new photographer. I've also applied to SAIC, and to be honest, seeing your work makes me a bit nervous for myself! Best of luck to you, I'd love to know when you here from them. I'm out in Seattle.
  11. As far as your canvases go, I'd recommend you take them off the stretcher bars and roll them if possible. There are some great shipping tubes at Utrecht that are perfect for this. As far as the presentation of that work goes, I don't know what I could tell you. When I visited UCLA's grad studios there was a painter who pinned his work on cavas to a wall. Perhaps you could do the same? Congrats to you! I visited your site. I earned my BFA from Memphis College of Art, it's wonderful that they are pulling people from that region and I really hope you get in!
  12. Very interesting info in these posts! I don't beleive it was a waste of money for me to apply, it was a top choice and I knew very well that there was a slim chance of recieving an invite for an interview, much less admission! I completely agree that it seems Yale is driven to bringing people right out of undergrad. Perhaps they are more compliant that way? I for one, feel that my work has developed to a point that I have a consistant process and I suppose this could be seen in some circles as a problem. My site's on my profile page, I still feel that I have strong work and I stand behind it, regardless the decision. I also beleive part of my rejection had to do with a missing letter of recemmendation, which I'd requested to be sent about 7 times. Best of luck to those of you with interviews. Incredibly envious of you, I did hear something similar about students making one applicant cry, but I really hope that if you are put in this situation you can stand your ground. With the prestige of Yale your bound to bump into some elitism.
  13. anyone else filling out this needaccess form? i'm finiding it pretty frustrating that they indicate if you are indepedent (26 before march), parent's income info isn't required. . . but if you don't include this your form is incomplete. secondly, it's $30 or so, right? the only school's it is required for is yale and columbia. the first to which i've been denied, the second i have yet to hear from. wondering the likelyhood is of my completing this form before their feb 15th deadline, then finding i've also been denied in the same week? i guess it's better to have it in earlier than late (as they suggest?). what an exhausting and emotionally straining process this is.
  14. Thanks Orangetrousers makes me feel a bit better. Yale has one of the lowest acceptance rates out of the schools I've applied to, and although it was a top choice, I'm glad to hear from them first. I hear the interview process is brutal anyway! Best of luck to everyone this week, I have a feeling we'll be hearing from a few schools in the coming days!
  15. applied MFA painting/drawing: SAIC, Columbia, Yale, UCLA

Hey. Just saw your comment on my page. I was rejected from Yale. I have an interview at SMFA. No word from Columbia or Syracuse yet. Haven't visited any of the schools before. Good luck! Did you get an interview at Yale?

  18. Hello,

just noticed you and i are applying to a few of the same schools. have you visited Yale? i had a great experience seeing Columbia's studio spaces, I also got a tour of UCLA spaces (which seemed mainly conducive to sculptors). I noticed your post about the needaccess form, I tried starting one today and found that it'll be impossible to do with just a W-2 (gotta get tho...

  19. Just finished my last application, it only took ehhhh . . . 3 months to finish the Yale app? What a draining experience. Notes on SAIC: visited the campus and attended their grad overview session in Seattle (I would look into these if you are not close to Chicago and can't visit). The campus visit was impressive, their facilities are fantastic and their grad studios are pretty spacious. I wasn't able to see much of the student work, and unfortunately did not have time to view the library or the contemporary museum (which are supposedly phenomenal). Columbia: Open studios were very exciting (huge spaces originally used during the Manhattan Project). Many in attendance (including Jerry Saltz, an advisor). A good collection of video/media and sculpture work. Felt most of the painters are working in the same manner; very Dana Schutz (also an advisor). Ultimately I feel that there are no funding resources outside of students loans, and from what I was told hardly any of the students work outside of the studio (which makes me wonder if they are solely dependent on their TA positions and loans). From the student I spoke with, I gained that most are reliant on the social network the institution has in place to determine their success in the field. Completely different idealogies from what I gathered, but both very interesting schools. Anyone visited Yale for their Open House in November? I would love to hear about it!
  20. Wow what a great forum! This will be a short post but I am looking at the following programs: Yale (figures no merit scholarship) Columbia SAIC Possibly UCLA? I'm visiting SAIC and Columbia in the coming weeks, I'll also be at Columbia's open studios. Will let you know what I see. Best of luck to everyone! Bythe way anyone know of Foundations that offer stipends to grad apps? So far I'm only finding options for students in their second year.
