    No Javits FY2012

When I visited the Dept of Education's site below there was no information on the application deadline (which I thought odd since it seemed so early last year), however they expected to award a far less number of applicants. 180 2012FY instead of 218. Department of Education: Jacob K Javits That's a real bummer if they cut the Javits, it's pretty much the only aid a person can get first year outside of institutional funding in an MFA program.
  2. Hey ctrlsave: Yeah it looks like they won't be making aid/TA position decisions till mid-summer. Spoke with Carron about it, but kinda bummed that I will have to move all of my stuff down there July 1st and there is the possibility of not receiving more than 15k. One thing I caught on my epal was that I'm listed as a California resident. Financial Aid said I would need to talk to registration about changing that . . . but, i'm thinking of holding off there unless they ask for proof.
  3. UCLA, painting! Have yet to hear about funding. Likely to be all loans, ugggg.
  4. would love to see your work, I applied to Columbia and was rejected :( What will you be studying while there?

  5. Moving to LA for grad school and need a room mate. If you or a good friend are looking for someone to split rent (and also likes dogs) let me know! move in: August or September. (preferably September) Criteria: * Willing to live in Santa Monica, Culver City, West Hollywood, or Century City. I plan to bike to the studios in Culver City daily. * Not looking to spend more than $900 a month, willing to pay a bit more since I have a dog, but no places over $1800. * Preferably likes to keep the place looking clean (meaning you'd be willing to clean). * Couch in the picture attached is included! The Dog: * His name is Jangles. Medium sized, red in color (check profile pic), 5 yrs old, very friendly, neutered, house-trained but would love a yard if one can be found. * If you have a dog, it must be neutered or spaded. Jangles gets jealous. . .
  6. Thanks Arsolo, I would love to see your work and where it goes in the next two years. Will you be studying at Yale then?
  7. for those of us who didn't get into yale. . . i don't know. you might, like, enjoy watching some Tameka Norris! Tameka Norris
  8. Anyone here get into UCLA's MFA program? If so have you received a financial aid package? At this time I've just heard "You will receive at least $15k in a TA position plus gift aid. I understand most of the granted fellowships are awarded from an application process, but I couldn't find that step anywhere on their site. Seems only second year students are eligible or are recommended? So confused. I really don't care to take out $40K in loans for one year.
  9. I only work in undergraduate admissions, so things may be different, but from what I understand a college does not have the right to pressure a students decision of enrollment till May 1st. I don't know if this is a national policy or not, but it's something worth looking up. In my opinion it's a bit unethical to ask such a thing until all programs have notified their applicants of a decision of admission. Good luck to you both, I hope you are able to find some good advice in your situation.
  10. Thanks! I'm very excited about my choice. I don't plan on holding out for Columbia and as far as accepting sooner rather than later for funding. . . I figured at this point it's best not to wait. I have yet to receive the email from Admissions with my intent to register info, hopefully it'll come this week. Good luck with your application to sculpture, I'm sending all my good vibes your way!
  11. Thanks Cobalt! ACT: Yes MFA Painting. have you heard anything from Columbia? I'm thinking if I haven't heard anything at this point (and RJ indeed means rejected) I should go ahead and send UCLA my statement of intent to register.
  12. you have fantastic work, i'm sure you'll be fine best of luck at your interview!
  13. Just received a formal letter of admission to UCLA's Painting and Drawing program. Yip! After patiently waiting for months I know where I'm going. $15k (TA+scholarship from what I can tell by the letter?) not much but I'm willing to take the loans if I can establish residency in a year. It'll be worth it I think. ACT: I found out my status (rejection) from my slideroom account about a month back, they had put RJ on my application page, through the forum I figured it means a rejection. Best of luck to everyone this month!
  14. Oh my goodness you've heard from nearly all of your schools! Still waiting on that rejection from Columbia . . . and hopefully something official from UCLA. I'm happy to hear you are excited about your choice, I wish I was in a choosing position like you! I'm getting myself all worked up for a move to Los Angeles and have yet to get a confirmation. Thanks for helping with the stress of the application process for me, this forum is so helpful. Good luck to everyone this month!
  15. i did, i'm waiting for a letter though. it's the unofficial part that is starting to bother me!
  16. twiddling the thumbs.

  17. me either, I spoke with Caron a little over a week ago and she suggested letters would be sent out mid-March as well. I'm in Seattle, I'll let you guys know if I get something in the mail!
  18. Oh my goodness, just two days away from the forum and I see people have recieved letters from Columbia . . . of course I am out of town! Now my neighbor will have to pry open the mailbox for me. whew. I finished my BFA a little early, Winter 2009 and moved to New York to see what i could do with it. i really loved my time trying to figure it out, i was lucky to support myself with some gallery representation in soho. unfotunately i found pretty quickly that the particular people i was working with were only interested in me making the same work after three years. no thank you! after 5 years out of school i've very eager to be back in an acedemic environment. my work has excellerated as much as it could in that time, I realized that by not having a community of artists everything stagnated. so ready to be back in a studio, full time!
  19. That's wild to me. best of luck at your interview!
  20. thanks! i'm very much looking forward to grad school. i realize now that in the past year i've developed a very specific way of working, but i'm starting to bore with it and would love to experiment. i think three years will be good for that. would love to know more about that museum show!

    best - e

  21. looks like I have the same slideroom notice for Columbia . . .RJs. funny never thought to check slideroom before. we will see! either way I am so happy for the UCLA decision, no notice of funding yet but I really need something. Out of state tuition for the first year is costly. . . best of luck to everyone!
  22. interesting work, didn't get anything in your message past: "plus i got a museum show opening this friday, and some other show the following week.

your work looks gre. . ."

  23. i'm balling up and calling tomorrow. . . times a wastin'
