  1. The airlines have their own 'contract of carriage' which may indicate that if you throw away your return ticket, they can pursue the price difference if u had bought single instead of return. Some may indicate a no show fee. There are some good discussions online about this issue, whether they actually enforce these practices, whether they can pursue these 'infractions' successfully in court, whether such pricing practices are up to date with the rise of budget airlines etc. Quite interesting actually. U can google for more if you are really interested.
  2. Frankly speaking, I have no idea but I remember someone writing that he/she got a warning letter from the airline for engaging in such 'airline booking ploys' But given that airlines typically overbook flights to help offset no-shows , maybe they'll actually be glad that you didn't turn up.
  3. Someone recommended that I look up JSM apartments. Do you have any experience with them? Also coincidentally, I'll be in the brain and cognition division also.
  4. Buying a return ticket and not using the return is called throw away ticketing. I'm in a similar position and did some research on the internet. I think the consensus that it's fine as long as you don't keep doing it. You won't get your miles for the return flight though.
  5. I'm also waiting on WUSTL... do give me a heads up if you hear anything from them and I'll also do the same, thanks.
  6. I've always regarded it as Mojingly's guess..Professor of Interest. For a while i thought it was program of interest also..
  7. I'm an international applicant too and was interviewed via skype. They did extend an offer to go down for the visiting weekend but I don't know if they will subsidize my visit yet. All these funding cuts not doing us international students any good... Anyway, it's still January only so lets all remain hopeful.
  8. Besides all that everyone has said, maybe you can consider taking the psychology subject test to demonstrate your knowledge in the field even though you majored in physics.
  9. I just took the GRE psych this year. There is no break but of course you can do it at the expense of your own time. Like what sesquipedale said, just do a couple of full length tests. Get acquainted with the demands of the test beforehand and I'm sure you'll be fine. And of course reviewing your material before a good night sleep is a good idea as it helps in memory consolidation so have a good rest. Good luck!
  10. Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum I'm also applying to cognitive neuroscience programme. In particular I'm interested in researching on aging using fMRI. I was looking at Michigan, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC), Duke, Washington University in St. Louis (WUSTL/WashU), UT Dallas and Toronto. My GRE is 1490 (V=710, Q=780), this was my second try. I got 1360 the first time round but was adviced that it might be a bottleneck and some schools won't even consider me if I am not above 1400. I don't know how true that is. I am not from the U.S. so my GPA is on a scale of 5.0 but I am currently within the First Class honours range. I've also had a number of research experience and should be able to get some decent letters of recommendation. However, I heard that my chances of entering directly into a Ph.D programme from a bachelor degree are slim because my undergraduate was done in an Asian institution. Which is kind of disappointing if its true. Just wondering if anyone else has heard the same or can verify the claim.. thanks
