  1. Meeting w/ Prof Williams tomorrow to nail it down, but I plan to take 786 as well and 802, the writing seminar, the sharpen up my rusty skills!
  2. Ha, fair enough!
  3. So, who's excited for school? I am getting very anxious to start with all the emails from GSHAAA. So, is it true the first rule of GradCafe is there is no GradCafe?
  4. This may be a "stupid" question, but other than funding available at my program, I haven't really seen too much outside funding. Am I looking in the wrong places? I've applied for and received loans for this coming school year (my first in the graduate program), but I would very much like to apply for outside funding to make post-graduate life a little less financially bleak. Has anyone discovered any good sources for outside funding that they would be willing to share? My general concentration, at least for now (I hear that often times interests change once you are in the programs) is 19th c. French and American painting. Thanks in advance.
  5. I honestly love Boston. I live in Somerville but work in Boston so I feel like I've gotten to know the city pretty well while also enjoying a more neighborhoody living situation. Have you considered where you would like to live in Boston?
  6. I did! Sadly, no funding (as I expected), but I am thrilled to be going. Looking forward to meeting you all.
  7. ...And here we are, a day before "D-day." Any news on anyone else's end? I haven't heard.
  8. Emailed Prof. Ribner again today: "I am grateful for your patience. A final answer should be forthcoming within a week." I wonder if they are waiting to hear from some people who HAVE been offered funding to see if they will attend or not? If not, then maybe they will distribute funding to others...
  9. Sigh, is anyone still waiting to hear about funding? I am not expecting it at this point, but I want to start planning either way!
  10. Have they let you know about funding yet? I don't want to formally accept until I know all the details.
  11. I plan to formally accept by next week. See you all there!
  12. I plan to formally accept at BU very soon
  13. To clarify, Georgetown's program DOES include museum internships, and there is no longer a thesis (though you have the option to write a serious paper, if you wish). Both the 1st and the 3rd semesters include internships in D.C. I was looking at the program for this fall, but I DO want to go on to a PhD eventually and after speaking with several students decided that it was not as academically inclined as I wished--a wonderful program, but more suited for those who are interested in art business or working in museums not as curators.
  14. One of the strongest points of my application was my work experience. Rather than look for positions in brand-name museums, I looked locally at smaller institutions. I landed a job as assistant to the director at a small American art museum and within a year was promoted to assistant curator (after working on, and then full-on curating several of our special exhibitions). I found it to be invaluable experience to be in a "small pond" where I was really able to distinguish myself. The town I was in was certainly not as glamorous as I would have liked, but the working experience far surpassed any of that. I suggest you talk to current professors and your internship supervisors and get the word out that you are looking--the best way to get a job in this field is to employ your network, not just by scoping out postings online. Good luck!
  15. Has anyone (MA or PhD) heard anything at ALL about funding (good or bad?) Thanks!

    Shut out

I applied to 10 programs last year...and was rejected from ALL of them. I applied to 9 schools this year (granted, more MAs this time) and got into 6. There is definitely hope, and the unsuccessful first round helped me really figure out where I could improve this go-round.
  17. Trinity College, Hartford and then worked in a museum for a few years--what about you?
  18. 19th c. American/European with Pat Hills and Jonathan Ribner.
  19. Congrats! I am leaning toward it as well. Waiting for word on (but not expecting) financial aid. What is your area of study/who do you plan on working with?
  20. Was it the same letter as the PDF or did it have any funding info?
  21. They said post bach PhD...I am scared to ask them if they made a mistake!
  22. Those who heard from BU...question for you. I applied to the MA and got an acceptance letter for the PhD. Anyone else?
  23. To the MA BU admit today--congrats! How were you notified?
  24. Don't know about Cornell, but I know Pat Hills and Kim Sichel are well respected and would be a good fit for you.
