Yale Divinity School (YDS) Interview?
BRapplicant replied to jmsquared's question in Questions and Answers
Fingers crossed for you too! so, it was kind of a weird situation. I didn't know either until recently seeing something about that YDS "encourages but not requires" interview. This is on their page. I then emailed to ask about to ser if I could schedule one. First, admissions officer told me he would try to squeeze me in for an interview given the time. And said he would consult with a colleague responsible for the scheduling. Later, I followed up the email asking for a reply and they then told me that interviews needed to by invitation. And if I had not been invited for one, then they could not schedule a interview. so, you know what that means...- 8 replies

Yale Divinity School (YDS) Interview?
BRapplicant replied to jmsquared's question in Questions and Answers
I just received a notification, after asking, that applicants receive invitations to interview. This was after first contacting admissions and being told that they would try to arrange the time to do an interview with me. So, I guess the person checked and saw I had been rejected anyway.- 8 replies

I hear you man. Same feeling I get here. Was mu stuff really that bad? I tried scheduling an interview with YDS but have not yet been successful. And Yale was much narrower in their allowance of space for SOP and writing sample which I had to cut chunks of it. Hopefully it still acceptable. The prospects of MAR are really cool, but I don't know at this point of my chances after getting canned by Chicago. Gonna try to stay positive. God bless you brother. Wish you all the best

Hi all! does anyone know anything about this MA in Ancient Philosophy from LMU Munich taught in English? From what I understand, LMU Munich is really tough to get in for undergraduate studies. How is it to get into this program? Would it be a good choice to build up towards a PhD? A top PhD? It looks like a really good program. And to study Ancient Philosophy Greek and Latin in Germany is like can't ask for better prospects. Still, would I be able to get in I wonder.

Divinity MAs in all these schools? Or Phds as well? I tried HDS also but one of my recommendations didn't come in time so that messed me up. I have been out of school for some time and getting recommendations is kind of hard. It would have been nice to at least have a chance to interview. I had gotten into the MAPH program at Chicago but couldn't afford. I thought that would count in my favor, but it didn't. I really (naively) thought Chicago was a "clear shot"

Yale Divinity School (YDS) Interview?
BRapplicant replied to jmsquared's question in Questions and Answers
Also applying here to YDS and dis not know about interviews until last week. How were you all application process? Did you reach out to any professors? Were they welcoming? If you don't mind me asking because I have been feeling a little stressed out! Just have been rejected by UChicago MA and wanted to keep some hope towards YDS. cheers!- 8 replies

Hey guys. Also waiting on YDS MAR here. After being rejected by UChicago MA Div, I worry about YDS outcome since it is a much narrower space for laying out a proper research proposal, but I wish to believe I was able to accomplish that. Also had to cut many parts of my writing sample. Overall, I believe I have a well thought out reason for applying, clear research question, proficiency in ancient languages such as Greek, Latin and beginning Hebrew. Contacted the head of the department who seemed to like my ideas. But then again, that happened with UChicago as well. Should I be hopeful or start coping with defeat? Do I stand a chance?

Hi xypathos, sorry yet another reply, but I saw a note from from another thread. I have just been rejected by UChicago Div. Really upsetting and was not expecting it. Do you think I stand a chance at YDS? My gdp is 3.5 from a previous Masters. I am an international student. I think personally mu strength was my SOP which has a clear academic research question, well thought out reasoning with sources and all. My writing sample I think also to be a serious academic paper that speaks to theology and philosophy from a phenomenological perspective. I exchanged emails with faculty from the focus area of interest who found my topic to be "fascinating". I don't how much I can think of that. But also contacted other professors one from Latin America Christianity who said liked my project but was going on leave. The funky thing about Chicago is that my rejection letter was signed by a professor completely alien to my specified area of research. Plus admissions there gave a mild feedback that to be "seriously" considered for divinity school I needed to address some issues. Was my application not taken serious? I mean, given a 50% acceptance rate, I don't think my application was not that bad! Any tips or advice for YDS? Anything I could do in the meantime? Greatly appreciate! It seems as though this acceptance rate they could give me shot!

Is this common practice? Besides the Dean (usual practice), my rejection letter was signed by three faculty members from unrelated fields to which I was applying to. I specifically applied and indicated in the application, as required, as specific focus area of study and I applied to Philosophy of Religion. However, I was rejected by faculty from Jewish and Islamic Studies, Near Eastern Civilication and Language, and Jewish History. My research question and my SOP had nothing to do with this except tangently to Hebrew Philosophy. Is this normal? this seems totaly odd.

So i got canned man best of luck to you! the weird part was that my letter of rejection was signed by three different faculty besides de Dean from areas totally unrelated to what was applying to. I specifically applied to Philosophy of Religion and was rejected by Jewish and Islamic Studies, Near Eastern Languages and Civilization, and Jewish History. is this normal?
