I thought most schools asked for an end of year transcript anyway...but that said I think you should send it. Who knows they might read it and it'll make all the difference.
I think you are both right. First profs are people too and they can lie like the rest of us however a good prof usually won't offer to write lors if they can't say something nice. There is really no reason to argue life's too short.
I feel like a started a fight...I feel like I'm bribing...that doesn't mean you are or that you shouldn't give a gift. But the standard is just nice personal thank you note... I feel reall close to my profs but I know that all three of them would send a gift back to me. And as for blogs/forums and 'tones' as long as someone doesn't start an argument about something completely off topic its all good
I think it's your mission to avoid giving the adcomm ANY reason to take you outof the running. If you're not worried about having an essay twice the size of the requirements by all means turn it in. I'm sure the person who does get in will thank you.
I hate to be a downer but how do you know that the school didn't just take your largr sample and pick out the twenty pgs for you? In other words they accepted 75pgs but only read the first 20.
You have to do what feels right for you. You picked the schools for some reason and chances are its a good one. The stories of application to acceptance are all over the place. some people get rejected from safeties others apply to one school only and get in. You never know.
I think that choice is truly your own. To put it in perspective I could apply for a PHD in science at a thousand schools and it wouldn't do me any good cause that was so not my major. If 10 schools feel like a good fit apply to ten. I've also heard stories of people only applying to one school and getting in. I just don't think it is wise to apply some where you don't like so you can have some where to be.
